What is your #1 issue with PoE? (not joking edition)

You'd think I'd have a laundry list but honestly I can trace all my issues with PoE back to one thing: it's free to play.

Happy to elaborate but it's more fun if you try to imagine PoE as a buy to play for yourself. I mean it'd probably be 'dead' in terms of population (which for a buy to play means very little: Grim Dawn keeps on truckin', after all) and Chris wouldn't be filthy fucking rich but dollars to doughnuts it'd be a much better ARPG. Most problems I've seen over the years with PoE can be traced back to the free to play model. Not all, but most.

Hey look, two paragraphs. Wait, three. Fuck.

gotta just agree here
POE2 should be the ruthless vision experience and POE1 should be the zoom power fantasy sandbox to capture both audiences.
I petition to return all the fun stuff that was removed or nerfed over the years back into POE1.
RNG layers in every corner of the game and it being an online only game with server lag spikes.

But, above all i hate off screen one shots and visual clutter of the game.

end game encounters. to be specific in order of things that are unreasonable/infuriating:

1. multiple boss battles
- we fight all of them at once, maven spawns a clone, they dont share cooldowns, huge amount of arena is denied to the player.
- best strategy = get enough dps to burst them down

HOW TO FIX?
- make arena 2 or 3 times larger
- disable maven's healing boon
- possibly look into disabling certain boss skills or putting them on a longer cooldown.

2. DoT degen in arena that cannot be removed
- if you play "smart" you can kite the degens to one spot. however, if you make mistakes, the mistakes can add up, making the arena have no "safe spots".
- the best spot to kite them is a single spot. you need to be able to survive standing in the degen spot.
- the encounter gets progressively difficult as time passes, longer time passes means higher chance of mistakes. you can deal with all the rest of the boss mechanics and survive but if you take too long, unless you are super skillful, you will brick the encounter
- best strategy = get enough dps to finish the encounter asap.

HOW TO FIX?
- DoT degens can still persist but perhaps make them more damaging (damage is based on 90% of player max life, can be resisted by resists) but lasts 10-20 seconds.
- Give ways to clear the dot more consistently

3. memory game
- fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck. i m old and have attention span of a gold fish. i get that its interesting but the stakes are just too high.
- also the memory game can occur during the final maven phase with anti life recovery beams and degen spots on the ground.
- best strategy = dps to finish the encounter fast to minimize the amount of times she plays this game.

HOW TO FIX?
- i dont know. maybe just remove it. i hate that my memory is not as good as it used to be. it actually isnt too bad until the last phase where theres spinning beams. maybe when the memory game triggers, just simply wipe all the beams and degen spots temporarily and have them reappear later?

i would add offscreen diebeams but at the very least i find sirus doable somewhat. as long as i dont die once, sirus will never be able to offscreen diebeam if you play smart. also this is kinda "solvable" by ggg if only they made it that sirus doesnt do diebeams until the player has gone back in to the arena and engaged the enemy.

I have two number 1's actually...

1a. The use of arenas, especially combined with huge AoE. It is a cheap attempt at forcing the game into being a pure dps/regen check, and not allowing the player to use skill in his fights.

1b. New content bosses in the middle of areas inevitably makes the end-boss of a map seem like a white... The balance should be so the 'end' boss is the hardest.
color balance and visual clutter. Can only play for short bursts because the game just gives me a headache trying to see everything.

They could change NOTHING in the actual gameplay and refine the visuals and I can guarantee it would be easier to play skillfully. (of course they should also change some gameplay issues....)
The visual effect should be the most frustrating thing for me. As a colorblind, there is no color blind mode while the game use COLOR to indicate enemies' skills, especially when facing the Maven.

Presumably there should be two different orbs in Maven fight, one leaves degen ground while another one will just simply explode. One is smaller while one is larger, so when I look at other video clips I am still able to distinguish them, but in game I can't really tell by just looking at solely one type of the orbs. Their colors? They just look the same to me. Quite often I step on the degen orbs in a bad spot.

So that is the first phase only. The later the phase, the more blue/purple stuff appears and the whole arena is just a mess to me. I don't feel that the visual effect in the memory game and the degen ground have a big difference. When the degen ground is everywhere, I can't realize the hint is already up and spending one of your portal is your only choice.

My biggest complaint is a selfish one. The unpredictability combined with importance of league start dates. This game and its league starts have fostered a no-lifer culture for anyone who can manage and endure it. Im not so much complaining about the fact that league starts are so paramount. Im complaining about the scheduling aspect. As someone who has a full-time job and cannot give less than two month’s notice requesting holiday time, I very likely cannot ever experience a league start the way I’d like to (a full week off). I can plan to take precious holiday on the most anticipated league start dates, but they’re ever so likely to end up being the wrong dates. Super shitty, that is.

Visual clutter for me, I shouldn't play the game via the minimap but you honestly can't play it by looking at the screen because the correct information can't be isolated from the background noise.

Shortly after that because i'm gonna get a cheeky second one in is that they won't cut league content to streamline properly, Heist should have been cut aside from blueprints which should drop fully revealed with auto rogues, blight should have been cut except blight maps etc.

Core experience is too diffuse with too much setup for required elements, paying the heist or delve tax isn't fun.
For me it would be skill selection.

There are so many skills, but during the 10 years I think I played them all, the fun ones got nerfed that they do not work without significant time investment, while there's always an easier choice to make that will cut the requirements to half.

And the skill selection is mostly stale for past 7-9 months.

I guess my inability to adapt does not help this. I've got used to the current fresh league mechanic to completely break the economy and make old leagues meaningless, and if the new stuff is fun, I play more.

someone mentioned that a colour blind streamer died to the memory game. he literally could not see if he was doing it right or wrong.

imagining it was hilarious.

but must have felt really bad for the person.
