Bug Reports (Path of Exile 1) - Steam Controller immediately disconnects on selecting controller (beta) option - Forum

I've been struggling with this same issue. I've tried everything in this post. EDIT: It seems like disabling Steam overlay makes it work. Definitely not ideal, but there you go.
