Maven - No call for change?
Am I really the only one hating the memory game of Maven?
I think the fight is great, possibly the damaging abilities should do more damage to make them scary instead of walking around taking a tickle for damage but the memory game cuts me off, it makes me angry cause while it seems easy enough, sometimes it just feels janky, my mind can't seem to understand the visuals for how it "procs" and that makes the fight impossible for me to do. I think by now I've tried about 10-20+ times and its the memory games that fails the encounter for me 100% of the time, I was fast at getting into the Sirus fight when he came out and I had no issues with him pre-nerf, he immediately received tons of nerfs and Maven is yet here with what seems as a ridicules mechanic that should be reworked or removed. I'm really disappointed in the Maven fight for that mechanic alone, I really hope they one day open up that part of the game for the likes of me. Last bumped on Feb 27, 2022, 5:25:46 PM

completely understand your issue with maven.....maven is ridiculous all around. the ground effects that's constantly no matter how hard you try some how end up right where the portal is if you die...hmmmmm not to mention the fact that every time the maven does something there is a pause in the whole game of what you are doing but not what the maven is doing to you...wait almost death again....yet they want to push their real money sales on us and they nothing to actual improve their game they already have issues with.

Happy to see I'm not alone, though I must admit and say that, the memory game is the key thing, that seems to be a problem for me and it's not cause it's difficult as per say, but the way that you have to handle it, that is a problem for me.
I think it's really hard to explain, but the technical part where you have to move the character around seems flawed and technically wrong in my head, there could've been so many other ways to execute these phases. Also while I understand where the memory game comes from, Maven being creative and stuff, why not make something more? For example, the platforms that spawn out of the arena, make better use of these phases for example create patterns you have to walk out to reach a lever and you have to do it in a specific order, little bit like the color/symbol-game in lab. In short the memory game does not make sense in the middle of a last phase, let alone exist at the current condition it's in. I'm looking back at Sirus who received major undeserved nerfs, and it leaves me shocked how Maven hasn't seen changes to this. Actually mind blown. Edit: I see it's a general issue as well, even friends of mine who has done the boss agrees that it's the most idiotic thing they ever experienced. So I'm also curious as to who thinks this is good? I think the biggest reason people have a problem with Maven now compared to before has a lot to do with the fact that she's now a required boss fight instead of something optional. Before 3.17, you didn't have to fight her at all. Now? She has a voidstone and if you want to max out your atlas like you used to be able to before, you're now required to fight her. This had the consequence of revealing just how bad her memory puzzle is.
Most of the atlas rework has been terrific, making her (and Uber Elder) required boss fights for voidstones has been the only terrible decision made. What helped a LOT for me was realising that if the memory game ever goes on the right "square" the next one will always be up. (this goes for all parts of the sequences) With that fact remembering the memorygame got much easier. I was amazed that such a small detail could help so much.
You're welcome. Last edited by arknath#4740 on Feb 23, 2022, 10:52:32 AM
