" i wanted to use that mace and see how far i can go with it. so far - Shaper is down, easy delve 300+. Stun is good for easy content. answering the gear question - what else should i put onto rings? this is RT build so no crit/accuracy here. i could go crit with brittle boots but that playstyle is revolting, otherwise crit with this weapon is rather nonviable. steel ring with life/phys/aspd costs a fortune in standard, what else is there? poedb shows only warlord's 'melee damage' (whooping 1.9% more damage) care to elaborate? |

" Again link pob, or set account off private. This screams of a knowledge/skill gap with what you linked. 1) Steel rings are a meme, how much damage do you think you are getting from their implicit? You'd have to have several thousand percent of increased melee damage to have them even be worth anything and even then that doesn't justify the missing resistance you could get from 2 two-tones/health from 2 vermilion's/ chaos res from 2 amethysts... that you now have to put on your gear to make up for them missing on easy implicit rings. Ones even missing a mod 2) What are those gloves? You trolling? You a stat stacker? Impale build? You said it was a stun build. Even then it is empty. LOOK HOW MANY MODS THERE ARE! poorly rolled base with no quality on it either.... 3) Stygian is a joke it has nothing good on it, and again missing a mod.. surprise surprise... 4) Your necklace is loaded with resistance because you took meme rings 5) low movement speed boots even with the implicit... 6) If youre gonna use a unique shield The surrender>Lioneye's remourse 7) The mace has no place in any build at all, unless you have less than 10c to your name. I could go on but this just looks like a complete disaster of a build just from an item standpoint. You say.... " You whine about melee being behind on these parts of the game, but you dont even attempt them in the same breath. WHILE ALSO not putting in any investment, and no clue on what items to even get. " Just a short note, Sidtherat is not the most respectful poster on the board but he's been playing PoE for many many years and he knows PoE melee better than most. The character that you're referring to is only a level 90 and some of the things you mention would likely be part of the character "polishing" effort over the next level or two if it was decided to play that character into the late endgame. all the memes aside, there is literally no reason to play melee unless you find it really fun or something. Melee is a complete joke compared to traps,mines,minions etc.

Attribute stacking doesn't work with low investment, is it a bad build? Or is aura stacker a bad build too? Omni without enough attributes, is it a bad build? Suboptimal gear, suboptimal gems and i would argue suboptimal passive tree with how cheap he is. High pdps weapons are the cheapest they've ever been, which are the corner stone of melee builds, awakened increased area effect is dirty cheap, awakened ancestral call as well. He wanted to use a shit mace/mechanic with an specific gem and see how far it could go? It's his choice. But bitching that "melee bad LUL" with meme builds? It's like a physically impaired person complaining that walking is slow because they go faster in a wheel chair. Ruthless should be [Removed by Support]. " soo.. something besides the fluff? i know this gear is 'mid-range', i pulled it out of the stash (same story with that shock nova char btw, compare the results maybe? caster with garbo gear is capable, melee with garbo gear is much less) but on the other hand: this is a STUN build first and foremost. i wanted to give it one last try after one of the co-posters here gave me some (correct) advice. this build is not here to 2s zap mavens and stuff ffs! this explains the mace - it is THE BEST 1h stun weapon in the game (in theory you could craft better warlord/redeemer gavel but noone will ever attempt that). why it is the best? 35%+ enemy stun threshold reduction.. (that one i posted is corrupted, i use one with original implicit) this is THE most important stat for a stun build and you need ALL OF IT (that explains the belt as well, at some time i used STUDDED belt for maximum stun'nage). but you would know that for sure i guess? gloves - yes, i have ~89% impale chance. 3 passives, 1 mastery, banner and this gloves roll for ~43% more damage? yes, please. this is maven crafting fodder item btw AFAIK impale 'damage' adds directly to the hit damage thus greatly increasing stun chance. boots - yep, i have new ones already. chest - same story. i wanted to use Divine Shield to see if it is worth it on a non-block build (it isnt), already specced out of it and will just use brass dome the best part, this build.. works (until it doesnt because stun thresholds were not updated and are 4 times higher than other thresholds). it is extremely safe, quite fast for a reason ill let you figure out and - most important for me - does what i wanted it to do. seriously, i know i can pick a crit staff, brittle and 20m heavy strike - i know that, but that was not the point problem is Heavy Strike: Ground Slam effectively deals ~same damage if you do the math (better supports, ~50more damage to close targets, no investment in strike crutches, better time on target etc), Boneshatter (esp Divergent) outclasses it outright. the loss of Threshold jewel really was a low blow knockback is really bad - mace has 'no knockback' for a reason, it has been designed precisely for build im trying to make and in general - there isnt that much you can do with RARE gear (unique machinations are different story but i didnt want to go there, yet) to influence your damage. it is mostly all about the weapon. there is no equivalent of +gems for casters, no negative phys resistance you can stack. pretty much everything boils down to maxing out crit and attack speed. it is shallow why stun? because Warlord's Mark + Berserk for perma Berserk uptime on bosses. it is a thing and it works (if you are lucky, because stun is %chance based you can simply get shafted by RNG and some end-game bosses are outright stun immune) it is much better build - even with 'garbo' gear - than you think it is. unless you go for 'POB warrior' DPS check and yes, melee IS garbo. i can do any wacky caster and have NO PROBLEM with endgame - Bodyswap ignite? non-crit Shock Nova? damn, i even made Glutonous Tide bow into something worth using (in my build it is equivalent to 820pdps bow so pretty nice). all with the same quality of gear - because i do not care with melee? the solution is to pay trough the nose to maybe see the results? is that what you want to say? people in general seem to agree that current state of melee stinks - and dont let me start on Fortify 'improvements' that were just disastrous. people who claim otherwise main summoners and have no clue :) |

it is literally less than a day away from 3.18
3.17 introduced reworked defenses a bit (RIP fortify) i've been essentially been playing the same build since open beta. as a melee, in 3.17 i've finally surpassed level 95 (stuck there for years) i've also managed to kill maven and uber elder+shaper for my first time. with many rips and many failed tries. i m also at 99 going on to 100, pretty sure doable. i wont say i m a good player. i have access to perfect jewels as well as legacy gear. i do not think i could have achieved what i did otherwise. also i would add uber elder+shaper are tough fights for me and i had to learn how to hit and run despite being a striker. "strikes hit 1 additional enemy" is almost compulsory for strike skills. i struggled a lot to kill them and today some bloke posted how a character below 30 managed to kill em DEATHLESS no less. melee really is in a bad place lol. Melee is fine check in regularly on my character page as the league goes on to learn more. Juggernaut heavy strike/ground slam is gonna be dope.

" You've been here since 2020.... you haven't seen what melee USED to be like. They had to introduce all the slam skills to try to bring it back from the brink it got so bad. For every person that complained about archnem, I bet most were melee. My cycloner could kill a handful of them that my explosive arrow ballista could not. Most of the archnem recipes were too much for my melee, with proximity meaning death. And cycloner isn't even "melee" for the purists. I wouldn't have hit my 40/40 if I only ran melee. Yep, totally over league play.
