I am, and I will beat 99% of what the game throws at me with it, like I always do as melee. Only managed 27 sim waves this league, but I didn't play as much as I usually do.

Sure, most melee builds are a little bit "sub par" compared to the best meta builds, but don't hyperbole it into oblivion. Self casting and on-hit bow builds needed as much (if not more) help than melee does.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

since when Lightning Strike is 'melee'?

It is even less 'melee' than it is 'strike' (does not need Splash nor hitting the target)

Seriously, try Heavy Strike or Cleave or (overnerfed) some slam. Lightning Strike is a bow skill that scales with melee weapon damage. nothing else.

unless the new endgame is balanced around new spells power then sure it does

new spell power?
ha ha ha ha ha ha
selfcast without unleash was unplayable (unleash get heavy nerf so it wont change). trully it will still be low. dmg isnt selfcast problem. its just clumsy. lack of moveability, low def, poor clearspeed.
wow after changes selfcast will at least do sth in boss fight. clear will still be sad.
I'm waiting for the patch notes, but I can't see myself playing any "real" melee this next league.

Even though my (tentative) league starter is probably going to be Dominating Blow, which is technically a melee skill, it's hardly Cleave, GH, etc.
I might do a heavy strike character even though they nerfed it, but it'll probably end up boneshatter which is kinda just superior.

Pestilent strike is one I've wanted to do forever maybe i'll try and get that going at last
wasn't molten strike pretty good in 3.16? I wouldn't mind trying that out on a alberons strength stacker. Was planning to do it this patch but never got the prophecy for the chest in ssf. The targeting of other melee strike skills is the most annoying part about it imo, if you could just target near the enemy instead of having to click on it that'd make it much more enjoyable to play.

Since everyone and their mother have their own, subjective definition of "melee", I'll stick to the game's definition and tags, thank you very much. I'll have you know that I did wave 20 Sim, Sirus 8 and delirius 80 T16 maps as Smite, before respec'ing to LS.

But I guess Smite isn't melee either.

Auto Hit is the only true melee skill in the Game.

Really needs a Buff though, true.

Will probably go Auto Hit Ignite DD.

Just pop my 20 mil Vaal DD Ignite and then start Auto Hitting to pretend i am Melee.

To be fair, Lightning Strike also has the projectile tag, so saying it's a melee skill just because of the tags it has really doesn't work. I'd say it's just down to how you use it, and I've literally never played LS where I was actually hitting enemies with the weapon, and not spraying lightning at them from across the screen.
