1H + Shield // Double Strike + Tempest shield + 5 Auras ( v1.0)

I am trying to make a tanky build with 1h and shield.

Started yesterday and so far i am having a blast. Want to hear some thoughts about end game viability.

Build Overview

1) 5 Auras + Tempest Shield
Anger, Wrath, in HP
Purity, Haste, Determination, Tempest Shield in Mana
2) High Attack Speed (30% from nodes + 0.5% per Double strike gem quality + Haste aura)
3) High shield block chance ( +30 shield block chance from passives + 4% from tempest shield making around 60-65% block chance in end game)
4) Unwavering Stance (Cannot be stunned)
5) 30% more buff effects
6) 246% increased max life in end build (105 points)
7) 6 Endurance charges
8) 20% reduced reserved mana for auras
9) Shocks stacks from tempest shield and dmg skills

Main Attack Skill : Double Strike.

Reasons :
1) It attacks twice per mana cost. So you get double gain from Life on Hit support gem
2) Added with new gem Melee Splash it gives ridiculous amount of life regen.
3) Great quality option (Faster attack rate)
5) Low mana cost. We stop leveling this gem at level 5, because i plan elemental dmg to be main dmg source

The regeneration is so big that i switched to 4L Double Strike + Life on Hit + Melee Splash + Blodmagic gem on level 31 !!! Which is by all means very early considering multiplied mana cost.

Purity + Determination + Haste + Reduced Mana
Tempest Shield + Iron Will + Blind (Yes it works with tempest shield)
Elemental Hit + Rarity + Quantity + Weapon elemental dmg for elite killing and single target dps
Spots for Totem and Curses of your choice.

This looks great to me. How are you building endurance charges?
Could you post gear suggestions? Like what kind of stats each piece of gear should focus on?

Just wanted to say that tempest shield with inner force gives 5% block chance and that you shouldn't rely on tempest shield to shock stack rare or unique mobs when you reach higher level.

It's a pleasure to watch white mobs die to tempest shield though provided you have high enough block chance, which you might be lacking if you don't plan on using the unique shield with 40% block chance.

I'm playing this build atm and its great. I modified it somewhat went left instead of right on the bottom of the tree for + 15% allres and Iron reflexes
I've been playing based on the same idea as a ranger, but as a hybrid dex / str.

This one is great, i just wanted to mention that i've been using blind and tempest shield for a while and its HUGE :)

especially if you manage to get some magic block chance ^^

I am playing this build too and i am lvl 37 now and still 0 deaths.

But the thing is, i never follow ready builds. I always go check out my own ideas and stuff.
I planned to make this duelist a shield charge with melee splash...Found out it did not work.
I played flicker strike+multistrike+bloodrage for quite a while but later it got a bit less nice.
Puncture+melee splash helped a bit but it's not good enough for spike dmg. so i started to check out double strike + melee splash too. It's much better.

Why are all of you going for Unwavering stance? I really like the evasion chance with the armour+eva nodes. to get stunned, you must get hit first. With grace+determination i have like 65% dmg reduction, 40% eva, 40% block and 75% all resist only not good chaos res. I can tank 2 elites at once atm without even needing to build up enduring cries. With 3 charges enduring cry i have like 85% dmg reduction.

In the end i think that GGG should make melee splash work with shield charge.

I've been wondering this too. Not being able to evade seems huge as it removes another way to avoid enemy damage, but not being stunned seems like it would only come in handy occasionally. I have a feeling there's a good reason people take it, however, and that we're just not seeing it...
