This post resonates with me. I read it yesterday and have thought about it quite a bit while considering my own reasons for not being able to play. I love this game and have played it on and off since 2013. I'm now a father and full time worker (I worked full time before, but so did my wife...I played when home alone or evenings we had different plans).
Knowing the grind of the past, I can't get into the game now. It's been increasingly grindy to explore all options of gear acquisition...from the multitude of leagues now present. I have a fraction of the time I did before to actually play. Even if I played religiously a couple hours a night (I have less) I'd have a very difficult time playing any build to experience the content released to its full extent. I don't want my only experience with end game content to be vicariously through others. Its unfortunate that it needs to be balanced for those at the peak of the spectrum. I say let their be some OP builds...its not like PVP is thriving. If a gamer doesn't want to go full cheese mode they can explore some unique setups instead of the most OP. I'm not saying we should be one-shotting the hardest bosses with insane mods... Anyways, I know I'm rambling now and jealous of those that do get to play like I used to. Have fun everyone and see you online sometime in the future. |

The only thing that bothers me is to have to go through 9 acts again. Aside from that, I think everything is fun as it is. Theory crafting a character and building it to success is the most rewarding things in this. Can't wait for POE2.

As above the story line is bloody boring after doing it like over 20 times. I'm old and slow so it takes me a week to get to maps. Some do it on the first day - go figure?
Next in the early days getting an ex doing the storyline was common, it is now very rare. I have 2 friends in this league all high 80's and no ex drops between us. Yeah i know all about RNG but if the drop rates of exalts hasn't been wound back i'll go jump' Last but not least the geniuses that some players are come up with meta builds that last exactly 3 months before GGG kills them. I had one insignificant build in standard that i optimized at great expense and had a good time before GGG destroyed it, even tho it was no where near a meta build. " Imagine that there are people out there who dont give a single fuck about lvl. You get nothing for reaching lvl 100. You get pretty much nothing for lvling past lvl 95. Why would you waste time one it? I play since closed beta, I probably have simmilar amount of hours spent in the game and I never lvled past lvl 95 (only character that is past lvl 95 is character boosted pure chayula stones. Could go for 100, but I dont feel like doing this shit for 20h just to "flex with lvl 100". |

" It's hard to find something new to play when you sink so much money into it. That's his problem. Can't actually accept the fact that he sunk quite a few pennies into something that he doesn't enjoy anymore basically. |

The OP makes some really good points.
I've made it to end game for the first time and have progressed to 110/117 on my atlas. I'm pretty much done and have little motivation to complete my atlas, kill the end game bosses, or level to 100. While I would love to fill out my skill tree I feel that my time could be spent doing other things. One shotting everything on the screen makes wanting to try a new character/build kinda pointless as well. What's the point of going a melee or ranged character if at the end its basically the same gameplay. I really wish I would of played at the start of the 3.0 patches or even 2.0 as there is so many mechanics and crafting stuff that I really have no clue about. I just have to delve through old forum posts and videos and try to work it all out when I really just want to play the game. I feel like it's going to take me 4-5 leagues from now (if I even still care about PoE at that point) to fully grasp things and be able to just enjoy the game much more easily. “Not a single item of importance [in the news]. A tower of illusion, all of it, made of illusory bricks and full of holes. If life were made up only of important things, it really would be a dangerous house of glass...So everybody, knowing the meaninglessness of existence, sets his compass to home.”

" " [edit messed the quoting up my bad] Exactly the case, I've never done anything in POE that required being over 95 and I've never had enough fun playing a character to feel like grinding lvl96+ would actually be enjoyable... not even close. But more to the point: people who care about how many lvl100's a person has or how many league challenges are just simply people who can't form arguments on their own so they need to fall back to ad homs to attack the person making the argument. These people are rarely worth interacting with and their opinions are usually shallow enough to just ignore. Which is why I never bothered replying to them. I'm not trying to be insulting, but I think people who are overly concerned with lvl100 are kinda silly... I mean if you enjoy it thats great, but if you're doing it because you think it validates your opinion of the game or makes you somehow better than someone else... well thats just kinda sad right? Same thing with 40 of 40 challenges which I've never once wanted to do (so i've only ever maxed out at 36 when the MTX there looked cool) but besides the couple times I did that I've literally never so much as looked at the challenges to bother caring. But yeah people needing validation who also can't present an argument but instead need to try and denigrate the arguer are really not worth the time. Pandering to players who don't want consequences for their mistakes is a perfect description of what went fundamentally wrong with D3 and 4. If they wanted mindless mobile game time waster gameplay they sure did make some perplexing choices and marketing statements for 6 fucking years.
