Scourge sucks

Yeah, Scourge League is really just "Synthesis 2: The Revenge"

This is the best thing I read in while. Thumbs up!
Do or do not. There is no try.
Chris Wilson said something remarkable in that Twitch interview, when this one streamer guy asked, why there was a timer on scourge: He answered, that they intentionally put it on a timer because they want to force/guide (cannot reall the exact wording) the players to play the game like how the developers (i.e. he) think it should be played. On another occasion, he said that he wants the game to be slower. First I thought that these two statements were contradicting each other, because Scourge is the opposite of "slow". But now I have a better understanding.

"Slowing down the game" from his perspective just means, that players should need to farm low map tiers until they get strong enough to manage red maps. He does not like the actual situation where people are trying to reach red maps as fast as possible, and basically skip white and yellow maps. Because in his logic, players that need to spend more time on low map tiers eventually will spend more time in the game overall, because they have "goals" for longer. So GGG designed Scourge in a way that one needs to kill whole screens of mobs in just a second, to get something out of the mechanic. This makes playing red maps highly inefficient for players who can clear red maps but cannot do scourge on these maps efficiently. They are forced to play on lower maps.
When Chris Wilson says, that we are playing the game in a wrong way, he means that he does not want us to skip low tier maps, but instead play through the content slowly so that we spend more time in the game and maybe even buy more points. We should be happy at yellow maps if our build is not strong enough. Scource is a mechanic meant to force players to lower map tiers.

In general, I am not against playing through the content slowly. But item loot it even more sh** on low/mid tier maps. There is no perspective to really find something useful on these maps. No influenced items, you can only find them on the highest maps.

Without perspective and with the constant pressure to always put some "juice" on your maps (hint: opportunity costs), I cannot enjoy the game anymore.

I bought Last Epoch, just to give it a try. Even if I only have fun for two weeks and wil discard it afterwards, it will still been worth it. And to be clear, I also don't regret all the money I put in POE (dont let amount of supporter packs mislead you), because I had so many good times in the game. I dont need to play the whole league to buy points. If I had fun for just a few weeks, I will likely buy points. There is no need in forcing me to play longer to make me buy points.
Losing 80k of your player base does say a lot for this league and we're only 3.5 weeks in to it.

Trade was already dead after 2nd week.
Guess we are seeing a replay of 3.15.
Maybe same for 3.17.
Miss the time in 3.13 where trade was so much more vibrant, even deep into the league.

Hope we get an awakened GGG soon.

Agreed, scourge sucks imo

I personnally hope it does not go core :
-scourging takes forever for lame reward
-backtraking no fun
-overall no sense of progression
-blood crucible tree is fake, just fill all the point from the begining, or make some meaningfull choices for crafters idk.

Scourged map are the only good thing, if scourged bosses could drop one they would be worth farming at least.

And krangled currency are good.

Synthesis was better.

+1

More people need to read this. Thanks for sharing your insight.
"Scourge sucks but I'm still going to invest a hefty number of hours playing the league."

Made it to 31 by force of will... Its a giant slog now... So slow

scourge has no rewards at these levels. A wisdom scroll if im lucky.

Half the fun of a new league and leveling was at least getting drops... Drops are history.

Imagine how much fun maps will be... Oh look more vendor trash.

Who ever came up with this pile of crap needs a new career. This is the best carrot you have?

NERF - NERF - NERF - Slow it to a crawl. Oh look everyone is leaving.
