VRAM goes to Critical after ~1hr of gameplay and textures get very blurry.
I noticed that if I'm lowering the resolution, the VRAM fills up slower and I can delay the collapse of the game. If it is very unplayable for you, I would suggest that.

I also have 2gb, the game should handle better the swapping of textures in use but I improved my performance by turning off hardware acceleration on other programs. As they reserve VRAM even when not being displayed.
I made a reddit post detailing the subject https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/qvjts4/til_and_psa_for_those_low_on_vram_gpu_hardware/ I also expand on what options ingame consume large amounts of VRAM and which ones do not. Last edited by scrangos#2396 on Nov 24, 2021, 4:57:56 PM

I also have this problem. So far restarting game is the only solution. It never occurred before this league though, for some reasons the game is hogging more VRAM than usual...is there memory leak somewhere?

So far, I think something useful is to remove all your hideout decorations, it helped reduce my VRAM by alot based on the hideout I have in my screenshot above.
Also, another this to reduce the screen resolution you play at. Although this option is not ideal, it will help if you're desperate to get good frames and for your VRAM to not max out and force dynamic resolution to kick in resulting in runescape mode...LOL. There doesn't seem to be a garbage collect feature for the stuff being held in VRAM so each time it gets maxed it stays maxed until you restart the game. Screenshots of me hitting runescape mode even though nothing is happening in the map and I have cleared all the monsters.
VRAM is stuck in critical ![]() ![]() This is a screenshot of my my hideout after restarting my client. VRAM is normal again. ![]() |

Same. And it seems to get worse with every update. I'm at a point now where I have to restart twice per map, or just run through half blind (in potato mode). Over the past year, I've lowered every graphics setting to it's lowest level to try to maintain playability. The previous year I did the same thing on an old workstation until it wouldn't even boot POE any more (after an update of course). Is it time to buy another computer again?
I have an NVIDIA GeForce MX130 sending out a 1920x1080 signal to a large monitor I use for the game, and an Intel UHD Graphics 620 that runs the laptop's screen. Dedicated GPU Memory 1GB used out of 2GB GPU Memory 1.4/9.9 GB Shared GPU Memory .4/7.9 GB Hardware Reserved Memory 37.9 MB |

I am having strange issues also. I have a NVIDIA 2070 with 8gb of VRAM, and 10th gen Intel I5. I can sit idle in town for 20 min then first map I hit, it can even be from first town to shore and instant crash/game dissapears without an error just goes poof.
I log in and head out to say submerged depths, i clear the map, by the time i get to the door to The Ledge, today i got a "2D something error, out of memory" click ok to close game. 16gb ddr4, no other issues with any other game. I even tried lowering/tinkering with settings, I turned off Vsync and set FPS at 60, I tried turning off things and even deleted my ini config file (so it creates a fresh one). I have a 144hz monitor, i thought maybe by capping at 60fps, turning Vsync off would help, but made no difference. It seems if I run POE with absolutely nothing else running, no browser, no background programs, It runs for a bit longer. This game is just insane on the performance. This game also heats up my PC something bad, CPU and GPU temps roast while playing this game. I have MSI afterburner running 85% fans, and keeping it at 50-55c, but if I dont and leave it unchecked can easily hit 70+c...not even "ultra"settings, like lot of stuff turned off/medium etc I just started POE up after years since I last played and I am really getting into it but this crashing is frustrating. I hate clearing an area to get to next area, only to crash at the door, and have to re-clear again and hope not to repeat it. Like just get to the next teleporter and hope for the best. Intel 10600K @ 4.6 Nvidia 2070 8gb (latest driver) 16gb DDR4 (running game off a 3tb HD not SSD--make huge difference?) Windows 10 |
