Immortality is killing PoE

Its an observation. Also could be a question - what is wrong with reading? Playing an ARPG doesn't mean not paying attention. In fact, because of the fast gameplay, paying attention is more important.

It's not an observation purely, it's your evaluation -or more precisely, an implication.

If I wanted to read, I'd be playing Pillars of Eternity -which is, by the way, a very good game. On it's own genre.

Several words you need to read and comprehend are too much?
By reading is of course ment stopping up and breaking the flow. Nothing wrong with having to read a bunch of stuff, it just fits very poorly into the flow of mapping.
In contrast I like the mechants as they give some down-time "gameplay" accessible in hideout where I don't want to run around and do the action part of arpg.
You had to stop and read in Metamorph and Ritual. You had to do more in Harvest and everyone loves this mechanic. Whats so strange now? That you die and want something to blame it on?

Yeah, I may be one of those guys who dislikes that as well. old grumpy :)
Just to be clear, imo this is a bad experience even if you succeed and don't die all the time.

On a related side note, there's everything to gain from designing for fun failures.

Bad enough to kill PoE?

Purposeful exaggeration.
But yes I believe if they continue with this design mentality they will alienate a decent portion of their playerbase.

You shouldn't be constantly stopping to read stuff, you should be killing monsters and looting stuff. That's the core thing which has suffered. These minigames in maps have mostly been net negative for the game for a long time already and they kill the flow.

I disagree with the OP, you can quite easily avoid the immunities if you read the texts. If you just blaze through it all, not wasting a second trying to plan, then yes, you can get screwed occasionally. But that's on you. You also wouldn't run through a real dungeon without ever stopping to think...

However I do agree with the point regarding all the mini games (like expeds, but especially betrayal and some others). They'd be OK if you could interact with them in peace and plan ahead. However, PoE isn't suitable for that. There will always be more monsters wandering in from screens away while you're trying to figure out which char is most useful in which house, etc... That gets really, really tedious.
The worst offenders on that front are tempests while you're trying to plan your betrayal board. Love the mechanics, hate the combination and general implementation...
May your maps be bountiful, exile

Yes definitely, I just dislike the mere presence of immunities.
I my guild we have been joking that GGG would implement it for years, and then they do :(
