D2 coming soon, bye-bye poe

Not that I'm going to be rushing out to play Diablo II more than my usual monthly refresh of my mule mind you:

But they have not and have no plans to shut down the people who have the old version of the game. War III's disaster dissuaded them of that.

You can still get on Diablo I and play on battle.net BTW.
Yeah, just got the Disk Image for Diablo I mounted in my 98 VM. I can still get into battle.net 1.0. Chat room's empty. But it's still running.

You'll be back to PoE in no time when you remember that D2 has no endgame. Sure you might farm Baal and Diablo for a bit, but sooner or later you're going to get bored and find yourself crawling back.

Or if you have any sense of ethics following the whole Activision-Blizzard lawsuit stuff happening, you don't touch the game at all.

If you want to quit PoE and find another ARPG to sink your teeth into, you should either play Grim Dawn or Last Epoch.
Ethics... you are seriously going to go down the ethics path. You forget who owns this game?

Tencent's not the one getting sued for gross mistreatment of women in the workplace now, are they? :P

Don't get me wrong, I hate that GGG is owned by a Chinese version of EA, but at least it's better than Activision-Blizzard right now.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

Lol Blizzard just let go a bunch of their D4 designers too. Soo yeah. GL Diablo fans with D2R and D4...
Harvest sucks! But look at my decked out gear two weeks in!

Labyrinth salt farm miner.

"But my build diversity" , "Game is too hard!" - Meta drone playing the same 1-3 builds for years.
PoE is where the fun is for the moment. At least as far as I am concerned.

I've put a good amount of time in now playing Beta-League, since people seemed to think that unless I have a number by my name, my opinions don't matter. I think the mechanic is O.K. It's not crazy fun for me like Beast and Heist, but it's not "bad."

As to the difficulty... there is none. I have not noticed anything being harder. At level 76, finished through Cruel Laby, and only Kitava awaits.

At no point have I felt challenged. At no point have I felt poor for that matter. By the time I hit act II, I had enough alteration orbs to get a full suit of unique gear, which lasted me until Act 6, and by that point, I already had my first exalted, another 60c and 500 alts, which I used to buy Voll's helm, Belly, Rainbow Stiders, Oni-Garoshi and a nice oiled talisman.

I full clear each zone, sell all the yellows, transmute the flasks I find - since Panicked, Bubbling, Ample, Chemists + Staunching = 5c sale. I find lots of uniqes that I flip for 1 alch to 1c, and I saved up all the gavel class hammers I found in 6 stash tabs - and I've converted most of them to chisels with the very generous map drops I've been getting as I farm Act 10, which I flipped for pleanty of chaos orbs.

...and of course I'm running chaos recipes, so before I even hit maps I'll have enough to buy a T-16 capable suit. Nothing fancy, but it will get me there. And by the time I have my atlas done, I'll have enough exalted to buy a mirror weapon and influenced rares.

The same as always.

PoE is easy.

Blizzard has not shut down Battle.net support for Diablo II - both Closed Realm and Open Realm play is available. Nor will they. They will allow the people like me to continue playing and accessing our characters using the old client, which I intend to do into perpetuity.

My mistake I guess I've been playing modded versions of D1 and D2 for too long. Was pretty sure I tried to log into D1 long ago and it was forever looking for server which is why I resorted to Hamachi.

Maybe I had to run through the bnet launcher crap. Rather play modded though.

I don't use battle.net launcher. But the older games take a long time to patch if there is one through old battle.net 1.0 client. Diablo 1 is still throttled to 8600 speed modem era, regardless of the speed of you connection, so if you have to patch to 1.09 it will hang for a long long long time.

Here are the Diablo patches on my website if you still want to use your CD - though you WILL need the updated CD key from your battle.net account, as they disabled all of the old CD keys on the back of your disks:

Diablo didn't use a CD-Key. I think the first key was Starcraft. Most likely the issue.

I was trying to connect with 1.09 though. I just checked.

Yeah old school diablo has no CD key, the copy protection was the disk itself. I was referring to Diablo 2. They ditched the old CD keys about 7 years ago, and force you to use the new ones in your battle.net account. Which irked me to no end, as I can not no longer multi-box to mule. I had all of them registered on one account, and when they set up the new keys, they only gave me 1 instead of the three I used to have.

Irksome irksome irksome.

I'd run three accounts in my own private game to up the monster count. One is a sorcerss with a level 53 enchant, one is a barb with level 41 battle orders, and then my "playing" account, with 8 characters in great equipment...

... who are neigh unstoppable with 53 enchant and 41 battle orders...
