TLDR:
OP suggests being able to copy/paste items from in-game directly into the trade function to check item values. (geared towards newer players who do not understand item values) My comments: wouldn't work because it would show zero results if trying to match 6 exact mods, or too many inaccurate results if trying to show 1 of the mods. Can't think of a viable solution while including a copy/paste function. Last edited by jsuslak313#7615 on Aug 1, 2021, 1:26:00 AM

Again, you are questioning the details of the code as it searches the database in order to return valuable results that best match the mods rolled on that specific item.
I still do not see the error in a copy-paste functional search. It does not have to return a True/False result. Noob copy-paste their item into the search bar and hit enter. People have listed their items for sale and its stored in GGG databases. The website checks the database and begins matching every possible detail. Normally this will bring back zero results for a rare item. Due to GGG's amazing crafting complexity. How hard is it to have iterative searches based on an expanding range of values for those rolls? Noob item is ilvl47 well then search for matches on every other rare 1H sword of an ilvl that fits in that tier. So ilvl47 can roll "Annealed" which is ilvl46-53. Not there? Then check the next tier out "Gleaming-Annealed-RazorSharp" and so on and so on. It doesnt seem like Noob should have to worry about these things until they begin crafting. Trying to calculate value before understanding crafting is a recipe for quitting the game. Just copy-paste and then GGG brings back the closest results which have listed prices. This is not rocket science and yet GGG loses tons of new players and intermediate players to needless difficulty in rare evaluation.
but the search DOES function as you said: if you don't specify the range, it will search all possible ranges at once.
The problem with the copy/paste, is that it would not be helpful. it would either return zero results (or very very very few) by searching all the mods and all the values of each mod. It would STILL have to search for an item that has ALL of those mods. Perhaps you could maybe add a step to the process by selecting an option searching for "3 of the 6 mods" or something like that, and then the search can choose at random. But you the player would have to select that option, I don't think it would be functionally possible for the search to go through all iterations of: 1) 6 mods same level 2) 6 mods any level 3) 5 mods same level 4) 5 mods any level etc. etc. The search would take FOREVER. And it would basically end up being a naked search of ALL of a specific item. If I do that for "One-Hand Sword" it yields 10000+ results which could likely be in the hundreds of thousands. And at that point, what information is that actually giving the new player? By the time it hits any results, there would be so many of them that the player would see thousands of "1 alt" items, when the item in question might actually be worth a few chaos. Basically what it boils down to is, you NEED to have a very basic understanding of the value of certain mods in order to use any search. If you don't you are inundated with oodles of misleading information that isn't really teaching you anything and actively hindering your ability to value your items appropriately. I very much WANT a solution that would make it easier for new players to value their items and utilize trade, but I just don't see the viability or usefulness of the copy/paste. It took me YEARS to learn information of value for even just a tiny subset of gear.

The problem is that it brings back zero results. When it should be bringing back the closest match possible.
Now it may take longer but ilvl should be the first thing it matches as that will determine what mods can be rolled on that item. Then number prefixes and suffixes is most important as it determines if crafting additional mods is possible. Then exact mod matching would be next important. Then if the first requirements are met we are left with which mods that dont match are "valuable". This is fairly easy to determine as everyone can tell that +# to MaximumLife is better than +# to LightRadius. And this verified in the mod stat weightings when rolling new mods into open slots. So GGG knows what are the most powerful mods and the most "valuable". Thus taking Noob's item that they copy-pasted and finding the exact match may be nearly impossible but finding the next closest match with rare mod weightings is easily doable. And, even if it brought back ANYTHING other zero results that would be better than zero!
Also, it shouldnt be searching for:
1) 6 mods same level 2) 6 mods any level 3) 5 mods same level 4) 5 mods any level etc. etc. ... it should be searching based upon the parameters of the item pasted into the search bar. 1) 6 mods same level 2) 6 mods +1/-1 level 3) 6 mods +2/-2 level 4) 6 mods +3/-3 level 5) 5 mods same level 6) 5 mods +1/-1 level 7) 5 mods +2/-2 level 8) 5 mods +3/-3 level etc etc It should be returning the most similar items accounting for weighted mod rolls when not finding exact matches
" EXACTLY! That should not be the case for doing simple buy/sell crap. That kind of study and knowledge would be better spent on mechanical interactions of skill trees and uniques and gems!
So?
If youappreciate yr sanity - then play semi-ssf, like many already do. Me included. Problem solved. No trade? No trade issues. Tho those who makin money out of poe now screams about market being so small. Not our problem. Ask GGG. Its arpg, not stocks simulator. |

" I have actually just started more hcssf and use trade league mostly for testing build ideas but yea the market is pretty jacked up. Im just trying to make it easier for new players so they dont have to go through what I went through learning all of this. Dont even get me started on price fixing and trade baiting! LUL |
