The Goodbye Thread

Finally, I finished chapter 10 at level 71 then moved to t1 map, I finished my first t1 map by dead 5 times, that's enough, it's time to say bye to this league.

Could someone remind me what the end game meta was like the last time the community was united? What the game direction was? What the pace was like? What the power level of the players was relative to the monsters?

Could someone tell me who, at that unified time, even thought of using the phrase 'respect my time' when voluntarily taking the plunge into a notoriously hardcore and grindy even-by-industry-standards arpg made by Grinding Gear Games?

the last time everyone was near unanimously united was Delirium (those that weren't impacted by performance issues)

damn near perfect league. and so broken.

loot was everywhere. stuff that was usually walled off was now super accessible (things like scarabs) delirium splinters were plentiful and in demand. everyone had a part to play and could easily get things of value to sell.

there were so many good builds. top tier was rolling aura stacking. I was running storm brand with great success and an amazing max block EDC build.

so much build experimentation. mapping was glorious and sometimes dangerous. because of the added power, lots of people were running what they wanted to. you had people constantly doing sirus. you had people constantly doing elder and shaper. I was selling so many fragments, it was insane. the chayula XP was busted then too for easy leveling so they were in high demand as well.

that's when POE is at it's best. When you can be super powerful. When you have so many builds to try and play and a lot of them worked. When the economy is just rocking and there's so much demand across the entirety of it all because retention was stupidly high... everyone wanted a piece and everyone had a place. where the league mechanic was just flat out rewarding to play.

it gave people options, and everyone was rewarded for their choice.

the time before that? Legion. the spicy headhunter slayer league. very rewarding. very zoom zoom.

the one league that had a chance before that was Betrayal but unfortunately the content was too punishing for a lot of players... hmm. if only it wasn't. and also had really poor performance. but it was very rewarding.

Basically when POE is considered good, it's when there's build variety, rewarding players for their time and everyone is involved.

The broken builds didn't scare people off. The crazy rewards didn't scare people off. What scares people off is punishing content. Unrewarding content. Rewards that drop from a menu, not from accomplishment.

I made it to Act 4, but yeah gonna move on till the next league or such. I actually like the league mechanic this time around, but the grind just to get to Act 4... not feeling it.

Just off the top of my head:

rift over whether or not the Deli mobs were overtuned on release, whether or not the fog was good as a visual, whether or not Deli mobs needed more visual clarity in their abilities, whether or not the league was 'rewarding enough', whether or not the devs initial changes to how loot worked (going from one type to stacking) was a buff or a nerf, and whether or not the league was fun

You're confusing you liking the league with everyone liking it.

dead game
bring back 3.13
dead game
bring back 3.13

i don't understand what objective GGG want to achieve in this time?

1. increase new players
no no you don't, with this nerf, even old player like me feel hard to progress. How can you attract new players from other games by punching them with heavy nerfs?

2. Enjoyment for old players
no, i feel less and less enjoy every league, 3.13 was fine, 3.14 was worse but still acceptable. 3.15 damn.....

3. Nerfs make game fun?
no, and with some people this game soon become part time job. If you are no-life or streamer, you can throw 1000-2000 hours easily, but with us we haven't got that much time.

4. Instead of nerfing, just design new boss harder or layer or end-game contents

If I were to guess:
- Increasing TTK by nerfing damage, increasing mana costs, increasing mob HP etc. and hoping what people will stick around and thus invest more time and especially money - but that only works if the end-user has enough reasons to enjoy slogging through it, especially considering that the feeling of 3.15 is only a fraction of how the game played and felt during 3.14 or earlier

It's also quite evident that they're clueless about the direction of the game:
- The design paradigm over the years was "More mobs, more mob density, more trash loot, 1-shot mechanics, clearly favoring glass cannon builds to counter that etc."
- With 3.15 they proclaimed that "Players deal too much damage and are overall too fast in progressing through the game", but instead of also reducing mob density, 1-shot mechanics, boss damage(Kitava and others) + severely reducing trash loot and making loot more valuable overall they only nerfed player damage/survivability/movement + massively increased the time it takes to kill stuff/progress through the acts, and thus killed enjoyment

- Mana is dead

- Flasks are dead

- Map Clear Speed is dead

- The fun is gone

- Many builds are destroyed

And 3.16 and 3.17 will only get worse !!

Bye bye
I've been here since Nov 2013.

This is the first time I quit before getting to maps and also first time I uninstalled the game on my PC.

I went into this league willing to give it a chance. Try to find the silver lining.

I even had plans of doing 20+ builds with the new gems. My typical league I do a lot of builds its how I enjoy the game.

After about 15-20 hours of play time, Yes I play slow and I interact with the league mechanic every zone, I just wasn't having fun.

It's bitter sweet because I love this game, or I loved it. But I can't get that feeling at the game's current state.

If you are still playing and enjoy the content, I'm happy for you.

I made some suggestions to the designer team, that seem to be most sensitive even when I did it subtly. Post was deleted. Didn't know it's an offense to suggest playing the game instead of working just to get the -playing- feel for once. You know, to gain actual experience of a player.

As usual though, the terrible atmosphere here wouldn't exist if their resources are spent on listening to criticism, relaying to the appropriate team members than silencing people. What's communication manifesto for? And if people think they actually listen, no, chris got why ultimatum failed wrong.

Things are just too absurd at this point, you can't expect people to not be mad.
