There is no skill cap, its all gear now
" "Melee" has become a very blurred line at this point. Most melee are just mid range spells you cast with your weapons. I played an in your face double strike Zerker 2 leagues ago and it was fun. Having to scope the situation. When to jump in and DPS, when to withdraw. Weaving in and of point blank range of enemies, Esp bosses is a lot more interactive and requires more attention. This is also where I think the concept of "Skill" becomes diluted by community. It factually takes more skill to play that character than it does to play, I dunno, Toxic Rain, Blade Blast, whatever. Just as you said. You need faster ping, faster reflexes and quicker decision making. That is Skill. Does that apply to every build comparison? Hell no, but it is there. " I said skill matters in this game, you said it doesn't. Then you called me out to prove that it matters in a very specific kind of content explicitly excluding all the boss fights which would already invalidate your claim right there. If boss fights require skill then your statement that skill doesn't matter is already wrong. You didn't claim that skill doesn't matter while mapping, you claimed it doesn't matter at all. That you implicitly also excluded maps that aren't fully juiced just made it worse. You made a general statement and then tried to prove it by using a very specific exception. Nice try but doesn't really work. And that's not even considering the fact that the ability to make a good build and to get the currency to pull it off is skill as well which kills your point anyway but even limiting it all to just game play related skill you are still wrong for the most part. As for movement, there is a big difference between moving and moving well. Running head on into a bunch of Baran mobs has a good chance of getting you killed despite the fact that you are moving. If you move well however they won't hit you at all. And just as note, i've done several 100% deli tier 16 maps on 2 mio dps builds. Chisels + alch + sextants + certain scarabs. The problem isn't really with doing it, it's about doing it in a way that makes any sense. I can fully clear the map including Kosis but it takes an hour. Kosis alone is a 10 minute fight, longer than AL8 Sirus. I could add legion or breach scarabs in there and still do it but there would be no point because i could unlock only a few dozen monsters from the Monolith and would have to get the hell out of the breach at some point to not get overrun. And that's where the gear check comes in. A good player can very well do this content on a build that's by no means ready for it but there won't be much point for him to do so because he can't keep up with certain timers and generally takes way too long for it to be worth while. |

Guys i think we can agree on with shit gear you can close the gap of difficult content with some skill indeed.
But most skill atleast the most relevant as i see it happens before you fire up your new character. Its the planning in PoB and the planning how to get the required gears as fast as possible. More versed players chose options like picking inherently powerful builds that delete stuff in 1 second and are super tanky at the same time (usually not melee builds) once this point is reached actual gameplay skill like Darksouls or Monster Hunter games becomes irrelevant. |

Mapping - doesn't matter, either you one shot screen or it one shots you
Uncharted invitations - doesn't matter, need good items to sustain or kill them fast Bossing Low end items - doesn't matter, they one shot you 6 times Mid end items - helps a lot with good designed bosses like shaper-elder, helps to finish the fight in 6 portals with others Hight end items - doesn't matter, you kill them fast enough to not get overwhelmed with mechanics But to get skill you need good items to practice the boss or be one-shot 6 times and have to do another 100 maps to try again. Also you can theory craft in PoB whatever you want, but you need actual items to scale your build in game. |
