[STATISTICS] Look at how badly Ultimatum has been received...
I'm not playing Ultimatum, nor PoE in general. This is the first league ever that, more than two weeks in, I'm still stuck in Act 9. I just can't find the resolve to play and end up playing other games instead. Although I accept that my case only applies to me and might contradict a general trend. And I also accept that it might not be Ultimatum per se but just generally having enough of the game, for now at least. Because I'm not currently attracted to playing Standard either.

" I know right? Or Steam charts of all things. I'm pretty sure about half of my friendlist alone plays the game through client, not Steam. Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more. 'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league. Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave. |

" I mean, considering they represent a fairly large part of the playerbase, they're still relevant for apples-to-apples comparison, unless we're assuming there are major migrations to or from the steam client between leagues, or that the steam player profile is significantly different from players on default client. Maybe we could say that the steam players are more casual? One thing I'd like to note is that in the leagues that had notably poor retention according to steam charts, later parts of the league really did feel like a ghost town, so I'm personally not against using those to give yourself a rough idea. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

" I agree with your post, but I still want to know what retention tells us exactly? I mean, how do we separate the part of the playerbase that sits in town all day for trade or for talking about the game in chat, or whatever, from the ones who are actively playing and enjoying the game? All retention numbers tell us is how many people are online, not how many are alt-tabbed and complaining on reddit. EDIT: Let me make my point even more clear by using an example. If you look at Asmongold's retention rates in World of Warcraft, you would see a very active player that enjoys the game. In reality he farms mounts and complains about the game all day because he doesn't enjoy it as much anymore. Last edited by MichaelKnightro#5797 on May 1, 2021, 8:42:42 AM

" Yeah this pretty much sums it up, its impossible to get a definite statistic. I'm sure GGG has their own methods of tracking player engagement. And just as you said, I see a lot of people playing standard this time around because the league mechanic is mediocre |

" It's just one set of statistics, so it can rarely give you the full picture, you combine it with other data to get somewhere and ther more you have the more accurate you can get. Of course, that doesn't mean it's useless, it's just the way things work. This doesn't tell us much in itself, but if we combine it with, dunno, the league challenge data, we will know more about how many people are logging in and truly playing. GGG, of course, has all the stats, but you don't need that much if you just want to spot something simple like a tendency for growth or decline over a longer period of time. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
