Shouldn't the new class be a female?
" Except this has nothing to do with girl gamers vs guy gamers. I personally tend to play male archers in MMOs and action-RPGs like this whenever possible, but the archer archetype (Ranger) is female only (just like I couldn't play a male Amazon in Diablo). It's not a matter of guys vs girls, it's a matter of there not being any option to customise the way your character looks. While I hope everyone will agree that the way your character looks isn't the most important thing, especially in a game like this, it is a bit of a missed chance. Considering that the animation sets are complete for every character it would easily be possible to (for example) play a Shadow using the skin of a Witch, but the developers chose not to allow that. Whether that is because it disgrees with their concept of what the class should look like or just to push people to buy new skins from the cash shop is anyone's guess. |

Aargh, I have to semi-disagree with you there. I play an array of male characters too, but studies have show that a lack of female options is part of the reason that gaming is so low in girls. They can't then relate to the character. This is part of the reason why games like Portal and Mirror's Edge became so popular with females. They felt that it was pretty awesome to have a main female character that was fully playable, not just a tag along or the escortee.
But as you said, you would like to play a male archer, but female is the main class appearance available. I honestly loved playing warrior/melee type characters a lot, but those are normally large over sized males. While I don't expect every game to have these options, a game like this I would have expected it to do so. |

Before Shadow was released I thought it was going to be female. It doesn't really bother me one way or the other though. I don't mind playing male or female although I prefer male.
