Shouldn't the new class be a female?
Well, the class doesn't have to be female to be eye candy, so I'd say the new character still qualifies.
Actually, I had guessed that the last class was going to be female and was kind of disappointed that all of the strength characters were male while all of the non-strength ones were female, so I'm glad to see they mixed it up. |

I figured that the class would be female too, would have made sense to me. Would have just fit the trend, it just makes sense in the grand scheme of things.
The strength and str/dex leaning classes are male and the intelligence int/dex leaning classes are female. It may be "cookie cutter" or inside the box, but it makes sense! If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Finest Hardcore Gaming Guild ~Soldiers of the Wasteland~ sotwguild.com

this class does not make sandwiches, so it makes sense it is not a woman. however, it is horrendously emo. close enough id say. offending two groups with one post, yes that is my style. its all about looks in this game, we could have had that ninja alchemist (the class is called 'shadow' after all) and we get mr hot topic customer?
but seriously... complaining about gender, or classes in general, is pointless with the design of skills in this game. everyone can get the same skills and has the same skill tree. sure they start in different positions and you would need a little foresight but you can make an effective plate melee witch or a caster marauder etc etc. there are repeating skills all over the tree and unless they change the tree drastically or add class specific gems they 'classes' are rather meaningless and purely aesthetic. i dont think thats a problem, just an observation i see few players make. if you want to play a chick and want to play a 'marauder' make a witch and equip 'marauder' gear and spec into 'marauder' skills. |

Then I presume none of you would have a single complaint if a game had twice as many female options as male, particularly if said female options weren't "eye candy", so to speak?
As SneakyNaaraka said, it's all about immersion. That's the entire point of gender in games. Being able to play a character you identify with helps with the whole "RPG" bit, and keeps you coming back. And yes, technically, any class can have (almost) any build, but there's a good reason you don't see a bunch of tank melee Witches or pure magic Marauders. You shouldn't have to completely screw yourself just to play a certain kind of character. And as I mentioned before, it's not even a spread. If you want to play a strong melee character, you've gotta be male. If you want to play a strong ranged character, you've gotta be female. The creators of this game didn't randomly assign gender to their classes. They had an opportunity to be equal and fair, they threw it out the window. It's not enough to make me stop playing by any means, but it is incredibly disappointing. |

For me, I don't know, um, some classes just seem to fit males better, and some seem to fit females better.
For example, a warrior in my mind is always a male, which would be marauder in PoE, and that class having a female option would just seem out of place to me. Shadow is also one of those characters that I automatically want to play as a male. Then there's a ranger, that I would rather play as a female. Templar also screams male to me, and I couldn't play it as a female, even if I had the option to. Only class that I could play as both male and female would be duelist, I guess. But in all honesty, not having both options for every class is just developers being lazy. Maybe they're following Diablo 1/2 games, and keeping gender locked classes for nostalgia? lol, I can't think of any other reason for gender locked classes, really. For whatever reason they are keeping classes gender locked is not a worthy reason for it. I would understand if classes were some named characters that run the story. Duelist Jack Witch Nancy ...and so on. You know, if you played Rusty Hearts, for example, classes are like that, named characters that are part of the story, so they're gender locked, of course, and it's understandable. I'm happy that shadow is a male, though, since I would want to play him as a male, if there were gender choices. Sorry for those of you who would like to play him as a female, I'd probably bitch about him being a female, if he was. So I understand your issue with this. We all should just stand up as a community and demand them to give us gender options for every class, it's not too much to ask, just few extra models. Maybe we should start a petition? ^^ Last edited by gavro1990#0209 on May 10, 2012, 11:05:01 AM

" See, that's what I assumed this game would be like. I assumed that, since each class has a backstory, it would come into play at some point. It hasn't thus far, but I'm holding out hope it will at some point. And that would make gender-locked classes fine in my opinion, since it's not really "gender-locked" so much as "individual-locked". But unfortunately, when games don't do that and still have gender-locked classes, it's typically just an excuse to exercise their biases. Females are almost always either support or frail, ranged characters, while males are almost always strong, melee fighters. I wouldn't have nearly the issue I do if they'd mixed it up, but they didn't. |

If I have to buy something as simple as gender-switching then I'm going to be really pissed. There are plenty of other free games with cash shops where I don't have to buy gender-switching. In fact, gender choices are in most games these days. Forcing me to pay for that just seems so... cheap.
Good thing my chosen careers are all males, then. For now, at least. |

@Psirynn
Yeah, I was expecting that, as well, when I checked out the classes on the website, and watched videos of character creation on youtube. Hopefully they will do something about it by the time the game is officially released for the public. |

i think they were going for the whole, quiet guy who might show up to work wearing your coworker as a jacket look. The ladies think he's cute and quiet, the dudes think hes a loser, and he goes home and tortures puppies in his spare time
it just seems a little harder to pass this off with a female avatar is my guess Last edited by Degrees#3391 on May 11, 2012, 12:55:50 AM

I was actually really saddened that I could gender change my character...It was a bummer. To me what makes a game like this good is customization. And I can't make the character what I want if there is no separate genders...
Oh well, I guess I'll pretend that the Shadow has no...*ahem*...and just had breast cancer so all breasts are lost. And this is why it sucks to be a girl gamer DX |
