Using craft of exile for the first time is pretty demotivating

The way I would go about would be

Craft a belt with Life + WED + free prefix (and filled suffixes)

Slam with warlords exalted orb

1500 odds of hitting added fire damage
1500 odds of hitting % increased fire damage
1500 odds of hitting increased damage
2500 odds of hitting something bad

I do agree that the current trading system is frustrating, but I am not sure whether adding an auction house would improve the overall situation. It doesn't solve the underlying issue of trade concentrating wealth with a select few, either.

But it does in a way. That bots are designed to handle trade windows at an inhumane rate of speed. On top of that the player that runs the bot can grind maps while the bot is trading currency. This is a huge advantage and why they can accumulate so much currency over the same amount of time.

Not everything is answered by having an AH and true, a bot could snipe items off the AH all the same. It does however get rid of a few troublesome points in trading.

1. AFK - afk players would not impede sales on the AH.
2. Instances - if the AH is accessible to the player inside the instance they are in then the player doesn't have to jump around a bunch of instances to make trades happen. More impediments removed here.
3. Waiting around for a sale is no longer a problem. Simply post what you have and what you want for it and go play the game while the AH does the rest.

While it doesn't equalize the playing field between botters and players it does narrow it as explained above.
The weights on crafts are balanced with trade leagues in mind. Of course SSF gets the brown end of the stick.

That said, if Harvest had been implemented as an SSF-only feature, we wouldn't be here posting in EITHER the 999,999,999 harvest nerf whine threads OR the 999,999,999 SSF grumbling threads.

(Okay, maybe some SSF purists would be mad that Harvest exists at all, but if they are alone in Wraeclast and choose to ignore the grove entirely, it's not like Oshabi is going to appear in your hideout and chase you around with a stalk of celery shouting "Why fight progress???" And with the exception of new champions in HOGM, you alone would have control over who has harvest crafted gear in your Wraeclast.

It's not like Dominus or Puruna is gonna see you walking past the grove, sneak in behind your back, craft up some mirror-tier shit, boogie/hobble/pogo back to the boss arena, and then clownstomp you, saying "You snooze, you lose" as they teabag your remains.)

...never mind GG items, I never had those and I don't need them to clear all content.

I just out of curiosity checked how much grind I can expect to craft my warlord belt base. I was aiming for 2xt3 (life+ele dmg) and t1 fire against burning. Nothing too crazy right? Two ilvl 60 mods, one 80, nothing else.

If I did this right and assuming 90% confidence I am looking at:
- 100 000 chaos orbs or
- 1000 3-socket reasonators or
- 4000+ alt+aug+regal? not sure if I did this correctly

I genuienly wish I had not seen this. I was enjyoing myself up until this point, and right now it feels pointless to log in.

There is no reality where I can grind this in a temp league, or even in standard before my character gets bricked by one of the updates. Even if I switched from SSF to trade league. And this is just for one item with t3 rolls.

With all the discussion going around I think I finally understand how D3 ended up the way it did. It tried to avoid all the problems PoE has going on right now.

It only takes 40 pristine + prismatic fossils to get your first 2 mods. Fill all 3 suffixes with non-fire mods, add/remove fire until you get that burning affix.

It ain't that hard.

So true, if current harvest was ssf only, i'd go play ssf.
If you do not believe me just make it happen and lock my account to ssf only.

I will take game with current harvest over game with trade any day.
I'm tired of having to deal with bots, afkers, scammers, price fixers and ppl that just flat out ignore your msg to repost it for 0.5 chaos more 5 minutes later instead of asking you for that 0.5 chaos in pm.

Wow, thank you, this is the thread I was looking for! I don't really have anything to add, just wanted to help promote the trend of this kind of thinking among the player base in general.

I try to just have fun and learn about the game while I play it. My friend that works very hard and doesn't play games as much I, thinks that I am god-like with this game. So it is funny to me to have that perspective, because I myself am thinking that I do not know that much considering some of the videos and forum discussions out there about how to make currency and how to craft items.

There is so much intricate knowledge needed which only applies to this game and the way that it functions that it makes me realize how funny the disconnect is between someone who is new to the game versus an expert who has extreme knowledge of the game, so much so that they know how to manipulate certain mechanics of the game in order to produce a finite result out of a chaotic process using crafting methods in a game that is about random loot drops.
