PoE makes my PC reboot - trying to find the source
21 feb 2021
18:25, reboot while going from the Eye of the Storm (awa8) to the Karui shores on character YetAnotherArchmageHiero. " I think you'll want to create a new thread with your informations (Dx, moments of reboot and steps taken to isolate the issue maybe) and link it here for posterity. Also, my computer isn't rebooting every 5min, but on occasions (i'd say 0 to 3 times a day). And notably, it seems to be upon encountering a loading screen or very shortly after (<1sec). " Playing ssfhc exclusively and can't be bothered to sacrifice more characters (5 level 90+ this league to crashes), but I'm able to replicate at will by going to the garden area (a8) or moving back and forth in bath house. |

Okay, last update on this thread:
I am currently playing Last Epoch. I encountered the same kind of reboot once so far, at 7 hours of gameplay. I'm still curious to know what is so demanding on loading screens for PoE, it would help me zero in the faulty component (especially important given the price and availability of PC components these days). |

this kind of reboot is usually hardware faillure or low level software like drivers doing crazy stuff. i had a faulty gpu which could play poe and other perfectly stable max settings, but almost insta die and crash my pc in the witcher 3 at the point that it completely died after some attempt to keep playin that game.
i would start by removing the gpu from the system and use intel HD to test how stable is the game with integrated graphics. you will have to lower graphics settings, resolution, etc to get a decent frame rate, its worth the trouble. if you see too much struggle you can try the launch option -gc 2 , or even -gc 1 . another thing i would test is the cpu spikes. another story here. i had a pc that could run any game perfectly but insta crash everytime at the fortnite's loading screen after u click a game mode from the main menu( after the recent season update ). pc could run prime95 and other stuff super stable. finally found the issue, it was the 6th core of a 6 core ryzen cpu. the 6th core was faulty, if u disabled it the game run perfectly. ofc this kind of crash wasnt a complete system reboot, only the app. mainly because most of the cpu was ok. so, to test the cpu i would try something like reducing the % of cpu poe can use, either by removing some core ( cpu affinity from task manager ), or by limiting poe using 3rd party software ( like BES battle encoder shirase ). worst case scenario its something wrong with the motherboard, i have another story here XD its way too long but TLDR is stuff like mosfet and gpu power rails on the pcie can easily cause hard reboots on very specific workloads Last edited by Asunaki_Tabi#6525 on Mar 24, 2021, 8:07:34 AM

" Thanks for the input! I may try the GPU off solution. I'm also starting to wonder about the role of the internet thingy part of my motherboard : the last reboot I had was while playing Last Epoch, I launched a video on YT and rebooted a second after. I don't know what organs are concerned by this type of action, and if that was just a fluke or indeed the source of my problem, as I can't "hand-produce" the reboots... |

youtube + chrome on windows means hardware acceleration, so its a gpu trigger, internet problems cant cause hard reboots unless there is a short circuit on the ethernet connector/card/cable
