PoE makes my PC reboot - trying to find the source
Hey there, having the exact same crashes (instant black screen & reboot, no BSOD) with the same graphic card :
GTX 1070 6GB on an Asus ROG Gaming Laptop. Also tried Vulkan and other investigations, exactly like OP ! That is why I didnt bother creating another topic because my issue is exactly the PoE is the one and only game having this issue. Tested hours of about 20+ other more demanding games, no issues at all. After maybe 5 minutes of Path of Exile, crash. For me this started since the update before the actual one. Tried reinstalling the game via steam, did not change. Will give a try with Windows system file check, thanks. Edit : Just tried Windows system file check, ran DISM.exe /online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth, had to wait until 100%. Then sfc /scannow until 100%, done without any integrity file issue. Was hoping this might work, but no. Thanks though. Last edited by Nanoush#6925 on Feb 15, 2021, 8:52:22 PM

" Did you try the stand-alone client if it's the same ? Can you play in standard ? |

" Kind of the same isue but not quite, I can play (for minutes, hours or days, that's kinda random) without crashes. " Indeed windows detected some errors and corrected them. I have a log file, but I'm not computer fluent so I can't really get what the tool did here. Anyway, another crash today 15ish minutes ago, going from my HO to channel map (before doing the windows repair stuff). 16 feb 2021 11:30ish reboot going from the Karui shores to A4 town (after doing the windows repair stuff). " Standard or league does the crash within 5 minutes of gaming. What is working right now is reinstalling the whole game as standalone and never turning off the computer. I first reinstalled the game (tried from steam and standalone)and played ok for hours, turned the computer off, came back later to crashes again. After literally dozens of clean reinstalls (registry cleaning, settings folders etc) between steam and standalone, I understood that if I never turn off my PC after reinstalling, I can play for days flawlessly. For some reason (got to be related with some nvidia settings imo) soon as I turn off the computer and come back to play -> instant crashes |

" WTF, that is the most sick and strange error I have ever heard about. Wow, just wow. No idea on how to proceed from that one.... :( |

Hi there,
That is very unusual! I looked over your DXDiag, and I would like to look into two possible issues I was able to discern. 1. Can you confirm what version of Windows your computer is currently using? According to your DXDiag, it is reporting that you are on Windows Ver. 2004. The latest is 20H2. You can confirm this by going to Settings > System > About and then scroll all the way to the bottom. Sometimes, Windows will report being 'up-to-date' when that may not be the case. Let us know what you find! 2. Can you try launching Path of Exile with the command line launch option: '--nosound', and let me know if you experience any more crashes after you do so?
" Indeed, my windows version seems to be a 2004 for some reason. The OS version is 19041.804 for some reason tho... Get your shit together windows, you're plain confusing. Windows update is indeed offering me a "functionnality update" to 20H2 (what is this and why isn't it automatic like the standard updates, i don't know). I'm downloading it, will try tomorrow. " Will do if the updating windows thing fails, so that we can isolate the potential fixes. Anyway, just crashed (20/02/2021, 01:00ish, going from my HO to @RitualDuely on char AFlickerInTheVoid). Hi there,
Did you crash to the desktop or automatically reboot? Or did you simply get disconnected? And was this before or after the '--nosound' command was added to the launch parameter?
" That was the same reboot as usual, without a BSOD. That was before I made the windows functionnal update. 21 feb 2021 12:00, reboot while going from my HO to Courtyard map, character YetAnotherArchmageHiero. I'll try the --nosound option now that I have eliminated the windows being out of date option. |

Just want to mention that I experience the exact same problems. I've made a thread that seems to have died out, but I figured I'd bump this one.
Noticed I could play for almost an entire day yesterday (in windowed + dx11 specifically) but now I can't move in areas for more than 5 minutes without similar reboots again. I can also play any other game without a problem. |
