Movies - very specific ones!

I'm not really a movie freak. I do like watching movies occassionaly, and I'm usualy going for older ones - the less computer graphics, the better. Out of older movies, those with dark and mystical atmosphere, thought-provoking and mind-twisting are my favourite!

If you enjoyed Stalker then the original Solaris is a must see. It's made by the same director. The movie is one of the founding pillars of science fiction and one of the most influential movies ever created.
I wouldn't call the movie dark in a macabre sort of sense. Like most good sci-fi it's dark in a more cerebral and claustrophobic sense. Forum Sheriff

Old, dark and mystical, thought-provoking and mind-twisting? What about the original twilight zone TV show(1959)? It's not a movie but you might as well give it a try.

Recently I watched a 2009 Danish film called "Valhalla Rising".
It's about the discovery of America by the vikings seen through the eye of a one-eyed Norse warrior. It's got a very dark and misty athmosphere about it - has VERY little dialogue and - I'm warning you - is quite bloody. But I think you'll like it. I was also very pleasantly surprised at how good "Inception" was. It's from 2010, but it's very deep as far as Hollywood films are concerned. Reading through your post, I really think you'd like the games from the Legacy of Kain series. If you havent played any of them then DO SO! I suggest starting off with Soul Reaver 2 - the third game in the series. The second one (Soul Reaver) is in is quite old, so I doubt you could run it. The second one is also pretty old, and you're even less likely to run it. Another very dark game I can think of is Blade of Darkness, which for me is the pinnacle of hack and slash. | |
