That's the case in Diablo 3, yes. It's not some kind of rule that all other games must follow.

No one is denying that a pause feature would be a nice thing to have, I'm just telling you why it probably won't happen anytime soon, namely because it costs a lot of money and time to implement, and yields a comparable low benefit for the majority of players (which is where the majority of money is coming from), compared to other things they could use these resources for. End of story.

I have discussed this topic on the internet in several places.
Someone said that pause is not necessary for hardcore players
Someone said that pause is cheating for hardcore players

I only considered the need for a pause, - if you agree that the pause is a good idea then the end of the story :)

This conversation has lasted too long , It needs to be finished

Most likely not realistically possible...

By design, you're always in a multi-player session... even if you don't play with anyone you're still in a multi-player session.

Any pause would pause it for everyone, which would of.c. be abused.

Way too much effort (cost) required for GGG to even consider it...

Of course it's realistically possible. Pausing multiplayer games is not new.

Abused how? This isn't even a game that tosses you in a map with fifty randoms; you choose who you play with. If people use pause in a way that doesn't suit you, then the same as anything else about their playstyle that doesn't suit you, you can just...not play with them.

Yes, i thought about a game-session with many players BUT - at the start of this thread i talked only about situation with my grandson when i played in solo-hard-league

If i use any pause-like-protective-mechanizm playing in hard-solo-league then I won't bother anyone
What was the problem to logout? Do you realize that by pausing the game in hardcore you are immortal because you can pause and logout?
What happens when The Shaper wants to have a chat at a map boss?

Pause is a design issue, not a tech issue.

Pausing the game and then quitting to "cheat" death. You keep the character but lose practical progress, a fair tradeoff in a mode where final death is in effect. (This is also why NetHack, which only ever offers HC, only allows suspend saves.)

And in most cases where a multiplayer game is paused, it's because the pauser is a GM. In cases where players can freely pause a multiplayer game it's generally abused for tactical reasons.
