Path of Exile vs Diablo 3

If only the actual gameplay was that pretty.

Wouldn't really affect my decision to play or not.

Just being facetious -- I would love a full-length Diablo CG movie. Probably won't happen, though: far too fanservicy, something along the lines of FFVII:Advent Children. A nice experiment, certainly a good apology from Square for FF:The Spirits Within, but I think the CG movie scene is owned by the likes of Pixar and Disney.

Maybe I'd regain a little love for Blizzard if they tried to take those two on, though. :)

That would be awesome, assuming they ditched everything they've written about D3 so far. (A meteor lands, bringing a plague of monsters with it- didn't you boys do this in WC3 and WOW?)

The game (or movie) would have been much better if they made Tyrael the main villain, and revealed the Diablo had been trying to stop him from taking over the world.

Tyrael always scared me. Those wings were just so well done in D2.

Anyway -- this recycling relates to something else I just read around the web. In other threads, some of us have playfully discussed the 'female Diablo' concept art, and while we sort of agreed it's just a picture, there is apparently quite a strong theory out there that either Leah or Adria plays host to the Lord of Terror. The catchword for this is, of course, 'Shiablo' or 'Sheablo'. Amusing!

But apparently Metzen did this in WoW. I don't know or care for WoW lore, but it really wouldn't surprise me. After what Blizzard did to the poor Queen of Blades in SC2:Wings of Liberty (yeah, I watched the ending on youtube), reducing her to some damsel in distress to be rescued by Raynor (PFFFT!), I really wouldn't put much stock in their ability to tell a good Diablo story. I really, really wouldn't.

One company that needs to make a CG film is Netherrealm Studios/the Mortal Kombat guys. It could be just two hours of the characters fighting with zero plot being followed for all I care.

One of the most memorable angelic figures I have ever seen in my life.

Actually, I found the single player/story mode of the latest Mortal Kombat to be bloody good. I don't think it needs to be a movie -- it wouldn't hold water as a movie I think, but as a means of stitching together the first three mortal kombats, it was gloriously well done. SFxT and SCV should hang their very swollen heads in shame by comparison.

Yeah, and for me, Christopher Walken as Gabriel from 'The Prophecy' (which I actually rewatched last night). I'm big into the idea (creatively, not religiously) of angels being utterly scornful of humanity, gifted with terrifying powers but at the same time, ultimately inferior to humanity given the lack of a soul. That spark that makes us so stupid, so brilliant, so crazy and so painfully unpredictable.

...I found the idea of angels scary well before Diablo, but that game did me no favours in that regard.

After all, all the way back in 2001 Blizzard won an injunction preventing New Line Cinema from calling an upcoming film "El Diablo," a ruling based on Blizzard's previous copyright of that title for an upcoming film. The movie was renamed and released in 2003 as Man Apart. Wanting to make a movie, or copyrighting a title for one, is obviously not the same thing as actually producing one, sadly enough. (Matt Samia of Bliz cinematics was interested in doing that all the way back in 1999.

I am sad to admit I knew about that one, zeto. I always figured it was just Blizzard being legally anal and keeping close what they believed was their property -- the word 'Diablo'. Which is, of course, stupid.

Flauros: meh, Cefca/Kefka never scared me. Besides, that's hardly an angel, just a winged apotheosis of a psychotic jester.
