Absolutely no need, and to put the visuals in aswell and make it a big part of the story, you are sick.

That's a fairly poor argument because it doesn't take context into account.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
Corpses being eaten like a buffet in kitava piles of corpses everywhere in the temple etc.

And this bothers you?

We kill a fucking bear with child issues ffs

THAT was your breaking point? Not the Auschwitz-invoking piles of emaciated corpses in Lunaris, not the seemingly endless pools of blood, not the flayed skin corpse shrines, not the massacre of citizens and totally-not-WW2-inspired design of the Templars' icon in Act 5, not the slaughter of animals in a literal cage match in Bestiary, not the plundering of a Mesoamerican civilisation's treasures in Incursion...but the John Wick-ripped idea that killing someone's pet is excuse enough to go on a slaughter spree.

Really?

Seriously, anyone outraged or dismayed by GGG's usage of atrocity as a cheap prop *now* has not been paying fucking attention at all.

Not saying you're wrong -- I fucking despise it when stories do shocking things just for a twist -- but getting your panties in a twist over this when the game's been *fucked up* the whole time seems a little bit...myopic.

edit: I wonder if any of that will get censored. I know I'm skating close to discussing 'controversial' topics but I think it's disingenuous to ignore that a lot of PoE's content is pretty damn controversial by virtue of its casual aping of real-life instances of inhumanity and suffering.

Well said... I was going to post here, but you've already said it all.
Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more.

'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league.
Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave.

And that event gets the most remorseful, most sincere line from my sword. Because it's actually sad, just as killing Piety is actually satisfying. In both cases, we're given reason, time and space, to understand the target, and develop some sort of reaction to it.

I can't speak to Heist's story but I haven't seen many people react to it with any great pathos. They say the dialogue is great but that's Nick_K's strength, as proven by his Betrayal work. But great dialogue is easy compared to creating enemies that evoke feelings when most enemies are little more than loot-boxes made of pixels.

One of my biggest regrets in POE is that I'll never hate myself enough to farm your sword, leaving me forever in the dark about this extra layer of lore.

Oh well, back to fighting delirious shaper guardians I guess
The "story" of this endgame is stupid. WHY DID WE KILL YOUR CAT? BECAUSE WE'RE EVIL MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!

I'm not offended but it was extremely stupid.

same or similar context for all three examples in plenty of games or movies (even this game here). I just didn't bother go into detail giving examples that befit the context and kept it wide open - too wide. Argument good, context poor - I take that.
