Following your logic WoW's earlygame is nothing but an extension of playtime to force people into buying more monthly subscribtions.

That is exactly what I'm saying.

Can you explain to me how to get the "best" items in Guild-Wars 2? Are they purchased with a currency from some sort of in-game vendor like PVP items in WoW?

From what i have understood and showed in the game so far. There are specific vendors that sell gear that are for end-game.

I found them in the capital of the Norm. Selling low , mid and end-game gear.

You can also buy allot of specific items from the Karma shops on the various event´s that happen.

The karma you earn is based on how active you where in the event. And after completing the event, you will gain the trust of new ppl. And un-lock there Karma shops.

End-game PvE we have not seen so far. Just some amount of PvP gear you got right away that you can look at when you go into PvP and get boosted to level 80 right away.

You can also craft allot of items. I may be wrong here , but i recall from one of the devs Q&A panels that crafting will offer the best items in one way. And from PvE and vendors in another best way.

I guess they meant that it is entirely up to what type of play-style and spec you are going for.

What is the best sword in the game may be bad for your specific spec but great for another person.

We have only gotten to see the tip of it atm. And i hope the next beta will increase the area/level we can get so i am able to record and showcase more info to ppl who are just confused about this game :)

It's not -really- an advantage? It is or it isn't. It's a 1 or a 0. There is no gray area. You are PAYING MONEY for an ADVANTAGE. The game is pay2win.

For what it's worth, I agree with you - but these discussions are never constructive, because everyone has their own personal definition of what P2W means. Usually that definition is crafted precisely to not include their favourite game. :P

The thing is there's no advantage to be had.
Leveling faster only makes your experience go faster, but since there's nothing to be gained from leveling faster than someone else, it is not an advantage.

World vs world seems to be able to create some very exciting situations:

Part 2

Battle of Dreaming Bay from team Legacy seems to show how a guild would play the World vs World part of the game. The sound is unfortunately a bit bad in part 1 and the graphics is a little bad in part 2, but this seems like a very unique way to play a MMO.
I appear to be living in "Romance Standard Time". That has to be good! :)
Jesus, Tagek, you ripped that fellow a second one good and proper. And rightfully so. While I saw the cash shop offerings in Gw2 beta and queried the value of them (xp boosters, really?), now that I know for certain how it works, I really couldn't care less if people want to rush to 80 in PvE. It doesn't affect my game at all. They can't suddenly PK me, and if we meet in PvP, I will be the same level as them.

...it's amazing how much of the game is played 'by yourself' and yet 'with others.' The dynamic event system is really key to that, and in my opinion, they totally nailed it. What ST said is true: they've taken the best of the rest and improved on it -- DAoC's realm combat, WoW's extreme playability, and of course Guild Wars 1's graphics and awesome skill potential. There are even 'finishing moves' in PvP...

I'd say that ArenaNet has 'pulled a Blizzard there' except, well, ArenaNet has more of the old Blizzard in its blood than the current Blizzard does, I think. Not as much as Mythic, but definitely some traces of the old guard. I think most of them moved on, but Gw1 was renowned for having at least two or three Blizz North refugees in the mix.

Also, Jeff Grubb is a name I've known for decades now, mostly for his TSR Dragonlance work, and his work on GW:Nightfall really impressed me.

..Oh, and the art direction. There is nothing in Gw2 that doesn't look like art, one way or another. How many other games, triple A titles, get away with an intro that is little more than stills cleverly manipulated to look animated?

Anyway. It's a cracker of a game. SEE YOU AT LAUNCH.

ST: Naw, girlfriend. Her computer was in the shop having a tantrum, so she had to be content just watching a few of your videos. I'm putting the very hard sell on her with Gw2, but just watching it has her intrigued.

Ps: funniest bits of video 1: MOOSE! And 'fuck the wurm.' Hilarious.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

The game really looks amazing (gameplay wise).
The only thing I 'hate' so far is the stupid 'last-stand'-esque system they have in place for when you lose your health. It seems like a gimmicky way to be even more different from WoW. In this case, they should have just copied WoW I feel. (I like the 'everyone can rez you' part of it, though.)

Oh, no way dude. Fight to Survive kept me going more than anything all weekend. The skills you get when downed can get you back on your feet if you use them right. And they're very different for each class.

I was wary of it as well until I experienced it. The sense of excitement as you use very desperate skills to try to get back up is hard to parallel with any other MMO's offering, in my experience, where down was down and you either screamed for a res or you released and got ready for a possibly very long run back to the fray.

The fact that the thief can randomly shadowstep when downed was an absolute lifesaver for me. And the one downed skill each class shares is the ability to just heal up, provided nothing hits you. So for the thief, a desperate shadowstep out of the critter's line of sight can sometimes mean the difference between life and death.

I can't think of anything really gimmicky in Gw2. Not yet. There's just too much measured consideration in all the features. Too much deliberate implementation. There are ANNOYING features, like the level scaling down when you do an instance for your story -- shit, that can really make things hard and frustrating, but if I had any fear, it was that Gw2 would be too easy. The early videos made it seem like anyone could kill multiple mobs with one skill.

This is true to a degree, but you can also get overwhelmed very quickly as well.

Probably the biggest surprise for you, Tagek, regarding my liking the game should be that there are essentially NO sub-optimal builds. There are no crazy builds that push the envelope. Whatever you do, whatever weapons you wield, you will be good at it. Hell, you'll be ridiculously overpowered very early on. Rangers fly in and out of combat, mages summon phoenixes, warriors do whirlwinds that can shred a whole cluster of critters. Compared to the farmers and the npc guards, your level 2 self is a god of skill usage.

...But I still love it, because the game is so good it doesn't need me to be force myself to be sub-optimal or weird. As I suspected, it appeals to a deeper part of my gamer self, the part that just wants to be lost in a huge world, look badass and still feel very, very small and insignificant at times.
