Choosing the gender of your character

I'd just be happy if we could put a thicc piece of duct tape across our characters' pie holes when they complain that their hail mary skill isn't recharged yet. You want to take a dirt nap? No? Then get busy!
iirc they already have some recent voice actors suitable for gender opposite exiles. maramoa's voice would be a slam dunk for Omega Thicc. "Well? What are you standing around for?" Niko could be the voice of the male Witch. Like, not even a third persona - just have Niko be the not-all-there guy who 'splains to us the gritty, hectic reality of herding zombies or walking around in your own vortex mess. "Now I knew a chap in Fellshrine Heights...forgot the words to the Deathmark spell...got 'em all topsy turvy, eh? Well what happened was, it landed on his own head, and all his undead servants turned on 'im. Not pretty." Or maybe vorici? "Stop looking at my bare feet, or I'll carve out your eyes and give them to Tane." Templarella: hmm, maybe Sister Cassia could take a stab at this one. Shadow Femme Fatale: Oshabi, hands down. Straight outta Bond land. KGB secret weapon dame with a humble, down-to-earth irony when things go badly. Boy Ranger: This one's tough. Like the flaxen haired feminist warrior, he would need a cause, an ax to grind. Maybe he's an eco-terrorist? Sounds like a job for Einhar/Niko. Except Nikhar gon be busy. So maybe Jorgin? Haku? Waxing poetic about thieves' honour and the survival of the fittest, instead of Karui ideals. Or maybe Hazmat's voice actor saying "I'm better than you are! Neener neener!" every time he defeats a rare monster. Girl Duelist: What recent voice actor personifies the dolt who does everything somewhat acceptably and believes they are God's gift to the male gender? Takes nothing seriously? Hmmm. Veritania could fit this slot. "When was the last time you saw the inside of a bathtub, Exile? A real soap-and-water bath?" She got some sass. Scion Dude: A genetically engineered savant on a journey of self-discovery involving passing lethal current through the tissues of other living things. Sounds like a job for Tane. " What will be the background story for a male scion? He killed his wife on their wedding night ? How can an MTX , have his own voice? What model will the new MTX , use? How the MTXs will look like on the new model of the male scion MTX ? Seems like a lot of work , for such a trivial thing , |

" Flame Dash has been broken for ages now, you get a double or triple use with one click about half the time, and then welp it's on cd :ascii shrug: As for gender swapping, here's why it's not just a matter of slapping a wig on Grandpa No-Pants and rouging his cheeks a bit. Each of the 7 pc models has a characteristic set of armatures and anchor points, as well as resting and running/casting/attacking attitudes. Every piece of gear in the game that's visible as equipped to your pc, has anchor points that match those of any of the 7 pc models, and perhaps a couple different humanoid mob types (Syndicants, Shaper, etc). If you decide to create new models, none of the existing items will "fit" seamlessly. They may clip into the body, the weapons may look as if they are being held "wrong", and mtx built around the original 7 pc models may "break" and glitch when applied to a new model. Clearly it's possible to create new models with the same anchor points and general armature that corresponds to current ones. The problem is, they will look much the same as our existing losers in body shape, size, and movements. A female Templar, for instance, would probably end up looking like an older version of one of the existing women exiles. A male witch might wind up looking like the shadow or duelist but with better hair. He would move much the same way, stand much the same way, etc. They would all need NEW voice lines even if their dialogue ends up being IDENTICAL to their existing class dialogue. E.g. the male witch says "oops, clumsy me" when he kills a rare enemy. And many of the dialogue options are rather specific to the OG exiles, their background and cultures: "Go to Hinekora" is pretty specifically Karui-flavoured, so the female Marauder would likely be another Karui character. Constraining even further the possibilities for the genderswapped exiles to be sufficiently unique and different to make ppl want to play them. So if you wanted, say, the female Marauder to be a square-jawed, pug-nosed, broad-beamed Ezomyte lass, she'd need new voice lines AND a new script. It's a LOT of work and considerable cost for a marginal added value (overall). Unless of course these became high-end premium mtx, and then only one at a time would be released to test feasibility and marketability. " He said "can", not "will". The thing is that the character skeleton system is being overhauled for the new models (which is why they're able to add shapeshifting!), which would make it *significantly* less work to add gender swap mtx. But he didn't commit to doing it, he was basically like "if we see that the demand is high enough, we'll no longer brush it off as prohibitively expensive to make". It'd still require 7 new voice actors and a handful of modelling and animation verification. But I agree with I_NO, I dunno why you people are so obsessed with this feature. You don't even know what a male scion would look or sound like yet, but you're so confident that it'd be better than a female scion. Why could that possibly be besides a sense of fragile masculinity? I get that freedom of choice is always better, and agree with that, but posts like yours that amount to "wow I could FINALLY play <character> if only they matched my gender" are just... bizarre. Considering how the PoE community normally handles such topics I'm positively surprised to see nobody making any "The female versions will then just make 77% of the currency" jokes so far.
Good job, guys. Last edited by PraceAce#2900 on Aug 1, 2020, 8:46:09 AM
