Choosing the gender of your character

I have been playing PoE for about five years, thousand of hours and I love the game, but there's one little aspect that kinda bothers me. Why can't I choose the gender of my character?
I mean, I wanna play a male witch (wizard i guess) or a male scion!! Even if its as a mtx Please GGG let it happen ): Last bumped on Aug 1, 2020, 8:45:44 AM

i want to play a female marauder...same body as the current one but with the haircut of the raider.

A whole lot of the expense of creating this game was creating the character models and getting everything to work with the ones they have. They've talked about the millions they would have had to spend to give people the option of gender choice. The models they use are specific to each character... not just scaled versions of the same model like many other games.

Characters are obscured by screen effect spam 95% of the time anyway.
I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.
