Name a ARPG better than PoE

Rogue. Or more specifically, I liked the Zangband, cthangband and TOME variants. Not that most of you children have any idea what those are.

Admittedly, the graphics are a little dated, the action is a little slow and the death penalty is pretty harsh. Obviously, lab haters need not apply since they have such a big problem with traps.

The game is free to play and has a very large character/class selection. Depending on variant, the game can be as simple or complex as you want. And all drops could be great drops. Sometimes, that slime mold might just save your life.
I remember getting and RGB card and monitor just to play Rogue.exe in color.

You can play a pretty good emulator for it here: https://www.myabandonware.com/game/rogue-4n/play-4n

Potential wise, if the devs dont mess it up probably Last Epoch.

I will now explain my prinzipal issue´s with Last Epoch.

If i would know that my game´s won´t achive high graphical fidelety,
I would at least count on originality and doing stuff diffrent.

That is argueably the reason for path of exile´s succes, because they went with a classless design. And that´s the sole reason for it´s succes.

There´s is no logical reason to play something so similiar but inferior in severel way´s. I know i sound like a douchbag, there are live´s which depent on the financial succes, but the world is hard and cold.

Like they could have gone with a D&D+ Arpg crossover, were you control a group of hero´s. Nobody has jet combined these two easy gamestyle´s.
A group of hero´s without the roleplaying shenanigan´s.

A controller based arpg with verticallity.
A 2D Beat em Up with Charakter and Moveset creator.
A arpg with a dedicated mission creator.

Yada Yada Yada, i could put severel example´s out of my head.
Independent Game Development is the place were stuff happen´s which doesn´t at any mean´s happen otherwise. Tripple AAA can copy overused stuff over and over again.

We as Gamer´s don´t have to act like everything is a unchangeable stable. Path of exile is already guilty of pandering to marginal desire´s.
Relative to its time, D2:LoD will always be king of the isometric H&S genre you like to call arpg.

What's this mean? Here's Leonard Boyarsky, once a lead world designer for Blizzard, talking about the action-RPG genre Diablo 2 belongs to. Of course little did we know this was a prelude to the dumpster fire that was Diablo 3...

Spoiler
GB: Tell us about a few of the more important ways you intend to expand Diablo III's RPG elements compared to the previous iterations. How do you ensure that expanding on the RPG aspect of Diablo III won't interfere with the core hack & slash experience?
Leonard: The RPG elements we're focusing on developing more this time around are in the areas of story and character development. We really want you to feel like you can have an effect on the world -- and that the world can affect your character in turn. In the past, action-RPGs have either come down on the side of action or RPG, and we don't think that's a choice that necessarily has to be made. Our goal is to make the RPG-style story elements more engaging than they previously have been in the action-RPG genre. The main way we do this without interfering with the hack-and-slash gameplay is by making it opt-in -- if you don't care about the story, or if you’re replaying the game and have already seen the story elements, the game will still be fun, but if you do care about it, the story will bring a whole extra level of involvement to the game experience.
A central feature of this philosophy is making as few quests as possible mandatory, but having a wide variety of interesting side quests and random quests to play through if you want to. We are also doing a lot with scripted sequences and books that you can read in the game, but once again, you can completely avoid these things if they don't interest you.
Diablo 8 at least might be better ! (year 2056)
Let's keep this troll post going while the whale that supports GGG keeps trolling.

I been playing Grim Dawn pretty much the entire year of 2020 having made at least 12 characters during that span ( have over 20 characters ). I even eclipsed 1000 hours two months ago. I am already eclipsing 1200 hours on the game and I still have not touched the modded content...especially that D2 mod. While Grim Dawn may not seem as deep as Path of Exile with build customizations, you have to explore Grim Dawn a very good amount to find even more builds than what you can find in the masteries. I made builds that did not use much of the masteries, but more as a complement to the build I found exploring.

I am not saying Grim Dawn is better than PoE, but it has replaced PoE for me since I am completely burned out after playing over 3000 hours. I am waiting for PoE 2 to rekindle myself back here.

Also, Borderlands and Borderlands 2 should be an honorable mention. Sank a good amount of hours into these two shooting ARPGs.

Edit: I know the endgame for Grim Dawn is not as good as PoE, but I never went all in for PoE's endgame (Tier 15 maps and maybe a bit of shaper's guardians) either, so I treat making alts as my endgame. I am always expanding my horizon with theorycrafting and such. I know a certain someone from here can attest to the amount of characters I made in this game. Grim Dawn is catching up to that. :P

We need a new category for ARPGs because I'm tired of people comparing FPSs as ARPGs. We need to add Isometric to the mix. So many of these trash FPS games being thrown in the mix.
