Suggestion for the Current Outdated and Unnecessarily Inconvenient Status of Item Sorting in PoE

Do you not have diablo 3?

I do have D3 actually and the item organization and sorting is even worse on Diablo 3 than PoE. Anyway, thankfully Chris Wilson has already addressed the outdated and unnecessarily inconvenient status of item sorting and organization in this post: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2882324, in which he states:

...many players had concerns about the direction of how our tabs are going in the future. We have some Stash Tab QoL features in the pipeline that we intended to announce when they were ready, but feel are important to announce now so that the context of the new tabs makes more sense.

Tab Folders
You'll be able to create tab folders (for free), which can contain other tabs. This lets you easily group related tabs together, hide empty ones you don't want cluttering the list, and so on.

Tab Affinities
You'll be able to tick a checkbox on one of each type of your Currency, Map, Essence, Divination, Fragment, Unique, Delve, Blight, Metamorph and Delirium Tabs, to indicate that that Tab should receive items that are Ctrl+Clicked from the inventory. This intentionally would not work with other items (such as rares you have picked up), as those require attention to identify and consider them.

We considered whether this feature would result in an unacceptable level of paying for convenience. Because a user could clear their inventory with similar speed by dumping items into a regular tab (albeit in a less sorted/pretty way), we feel it wouldn't give a significant advantage if a user is optimising for mapping speed and provides a similar level of organisational benefit that the specialised Premium tabs already provide.

Both of these features are still on the drawing board, are a while away from release (ideally before 3.12 though) and may be cancelled or changed if problems come up during development.

Future Improvements to Current Tabs
Existing Tabs are being updated as much as possible with new slots for items that should go in them. As I mentioned at ExileCon, we don't want to add a second Currency Tab. You've seen the expansions to the Currency Tab, Fragment Tab and Map Tab over time, and as we continue to add more items in future expansions, we aim to find room for them in the appropriate tabs. This means we've had to make some hard decisions about what items go in what tabs so that there is room for future items to be added.

We understand the usability concerns about having a lot of specialised tabs to manage, and believe that the changes listed above will significantly help the situation...
So this is good news at least to look forward to in the future, however, it would be nice if these changes were here sooner or with 3.12 at least.

surely this is what you really meant to say
You know, you don't have to give all your stash tabs the same name just because some nerd told you to. A simple different single digit number at the end of each one will automate the process of digging through tabs by just telling you which one its in when the message comes through.

Good thing we can push for something as mundane as auto item sorting though...

Does the majority of this forum's user base just not read anything before they comment or purposefully cherry-pick what people say and move the goalposts of the main argument? Given that I literally address this in the post? Also, this is only one minor part of what I am proposing in the entire post.

Here is my response again to the same thing someone responded with again without reading:

Yes... this is already obvious and as I've stated, which you most likely missed since you haven't read the actual post or just selectively chose to read one part, I specifically state:

"...that item is sitting in one of your ten to twenty premium tabs all of which are titled "1 chaos" "2 chaos" making it so that you have to search through every single identical tab and then hope the player waiting on your trade does not get frustrated and leave to trade with someone else who will likely go through the same process of searching for an item. Sure there are workarounds to all of this..."

Of course, as a workaround, you can change the name of the tab(s) and all the items remain as 1 chaos, for example, changing "~price 1 chaos" into "~price 1.1 chaos" etc. But to have to do this just as a workaround to an already broken system of item sorting does not make much sense and has been outlined as a common complaint amongst a vast majority of streamers and regular players who have played the game since closed alpha. One streamer pointed out how they understand paying for more stash space but it almost feels like the item sorting is so bad that instead of fixing the bad item sorting system, they leave it as bad as it currently is just so you would buy more quad tabs and force dump all your loot in quad tabs out of convenience to not have to worry about the broken sorting system that is currently in place.

I am glad and looking forward to the future given what Chris has said in the recent post on his outlook about item sorting, I just wish it were here sooner, to be honest given people have given suggestions about the item sorting and have complained about its cumbersome, outdated and unnecessary nature since back in early 2013.

If you posted it as a problem, you needed direct answers regardless of what you posted after, otherwise it wouldn't be there together. If a rational human already saw the connection then a rational human wouldnt try to make a wall of text about a non issue. But, whatever, everyone one else is wrong...

So that leaves us with the rest of your wall of text: also a non issue or at least super low on the list. Maybe the effort put into these things is why everything else comes out full of holes?

What are you talking about? I posted it as a SUGGESTION to a problem that exists in the game for the majority of players who just put up with it or are accustomed to this inconvenient way of item sorting and organization. If it were not a problem, other streamers and players would not be complaining about it on Reddit and Official Forums, but they do, such as TarketKat, CuteDog_ and others who complained about this inconvenient system of item sorting for years on Baeclast episodes, streams, and other mediums. It doesn't take much to see this either because on Ziggy's recent interview with Chris Wilson, https://youtu.be/o-rL5fvhVfk?t=1730 at the 28:50 mark, Ziggy literally asks Chris about the status of improving the current stash system that has been asked by the community.

So who is the minority here then? If everyone else is concerned about this aspect of the game and asking for it to be fixed, I am the minority? You might want to reflect on this.

Also, I needed direct answers from who? You? No one asked for any direct answers, otherwise I would have posted this on the Gameplay Help and Discussion Section of the forums. On top of this, if the post was a question or ask for help in any regard, the post would have been moved by a forum mod to the Gameplay Help and Discussion section, which in this case, was not either because the post is a SUGGESTION, as outlined in the first word of the title. I made the post to address the glaring issue that has been in the game for years that is only recently being addressed by the devs. You can give your output on the post, even though it's not very constructive, but no one asked for any answers. I asked for a solution to be implemented to the problem in the game, even if you don't view it that way.

So then to you, a "rational human" is just a nihilist who doesn't care for anything enough to write past the usual low-effort, couple of sentence posts that you are used to on here and Reddit? Or should I just stay silent for you and not voice any concerns to make you feel better?

Where did I claim "everyone else is wrong" also? I stated that the majority who keep giving the same counter-arguments are the same things I already addressed in my post.

They have a completely different team of developers working on UI that is involved with the item sorting and organization of items, which doesn't take away from focusing on other aspects of game development. This is the same as arguing that the devs spend too much time on making new mtx to care for other aspects of the game, when it's a completely different team working on a different part of the game that has more people involved than you realize.

guavasauce wrote:

This is my favorite part of what you wrote. This issue I am arguing for, is so "trivial" and "low on the list" according to you, that the devs themselves have addressed before I even made this post back in June of this year: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2882324 where Chris literally outlines how stash tabs are in need of improvement in terms of their item organization and sorting and will be fixed in the future.

It seems very tone-deaf the majority of what you wrote in your response without even acknowledging the other side of the argument. I can't change your opinion on this obviously, but try understanding that people voice their concerns for a reason, otherwise the devs themselves would not be giving updates like this on the future of stash tabs, in which the devs themselves understand and acknowledge they don't have a perfect system of item sorting and organization either. Nonetheless, all will be better in the future when these changes to item sorting and organization are implemented, even if you don't see value in something like this, when most others, including the devs themselves, do.

I dont get on reddit and I don't watch streamers either. Niether influence my thoughts or perceptions of the game. Neither of those groups make up the majority, more of a vocal minority. Even if that's incorrect, being a majority doesn't make you correct.

You needed direct answers because you apparently didn't make the connection on tab naming. Me, being a nihilist, has nothing to do with why you think 3 extra seconds at orb/frag/essence/map/delirium tabs is such a major issue or why you decided to complain about trading and sifting through tabs that you could just name in the first place, that it requires effort/visibility and why I completely don't. You think you can just drop an opinion and not get criticism? Go reflect on that.

"Chris and the devs" are wasting effort they could be using to build a player base that not only stays with the game, but actually grows over time. That's commonly lost on menial things like "why can't I just click and things automatically go?" Instead. Maybe if they applied the same thought process of wanting to slow the game down, so add death effects and more one shot mechanics, but also add mass power creep and speed, then sit back and ponder why things aren't working as planned. Thanks, but their opinions are also of no value to me.

I'm playing Grim Dawn, which is a similar game to PoE, and I'm already shocked that that game has sorting and auto deposit and this doesn't. It has inferior graphics and combat, yet it item sorting? I just don't understand why these simple QoL things aren't in the game. Have the developers not played anything made after 2010?
Terraria auto-sort and deposit, when? :)
