Just cos you find something tedious does not mean changing it is just a QOL improvement

"
Edit: apparently saying this several times throughout the post was not enough, so I'm putting it right at the top in bold now

I AM NOT ARGUING AGAINST ANY CHANGES, I AM ASKING PEOPLE TO STOP CALLING THESE CHANGES AND OTHER SIMILAR ONES 'QOL IMPROVEMENTS'. IT IS A MISREPRESENTATION, THEY ARE MAJOR MECHANICAL CHANGES.

Ever since the china race I feel like there has been an uptick in people asking for what they call 'QOL changes', but they don't seem to understand that what they're actually asking for is a huge mechanical change to the base game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to present an argument for having to pick up 700 'Splinters of RSI' one by one, but people don't seem to understand what the changes they're asking for actually mean. This is not to say that everybody asking for such changes does not understand.

My point here is that if you're asking for loot pets, or automatic stash sorting, or free respecs up to lvl 70, this is not just QOL. These are major mechanical changes that will have knock-on effects.

Just to name some examples; loot pets will devalue all currency they pick up. The markets for those currencies will shrivel, and possibly even die in some cases. Nobody will put any weight at all into them. This might sound fine, but consider the knock on effects. Alts now have very little value, which means that crusader explode mod chests, along with many other items, go down in value. And if you tell me "but then we just don't let the loot pets pick up alts". Alright, so they pick up everything below alts. So you just convert all of that useless currency into alts at the vendor. No matter what way you look at it, this would inject more currency into the economy, which means that whatever currency it is will go down in value, which means crafting with that currency is cheaper, which in turn devalues those crafts. This is not just some minor QoL change, this is a big change to the game economy.

Free respecs up until lvl 70, honestly I dunno how big an effect his would have. It could crash the market for regrets making them basically useless or it could just reduce their price by 10-20%. Without statistics on how many people run full lvling builds I don't really know. Regardless it would have an effect. It would reduce their price. This is not just a minor QoL change.

Inventory management is the biggest one. People asking for auto-sorting their stash, or auto-stashing items. This has been a request that's been around a lot longer than the 2 above. But inventory management has been a mechanic of ARPGs since ARPGs have had inventories. Removing the opportunity cost of managing your stash is an enormous change to ask for. Honestly I struggle to even imagine the knock-on effects a change like this would have. Map tabs alone have already reduced the cost of maps, as there is now less opportunity cost to storing high quantities of maps in a sorted fashion.

That all said, I'm not trying to argue against these changes here. Yes I have my issues with some of these changes people request, and I'm not in favour of all of them. But the issue I'm addressing here is people calling them QoL changes. These are not just QoL changes, these are huge changes to the mechanics of the game. They are not simple, they are not the same as having a toggle function for attack in place, these are changes that will have knock-on effects in the rest of the game. Please stop calling them QoL changes.

the line between "make it easier" and "quality of life" is so thin it's almost nonexistent
Thumbs.

I played in BOTH Chinese server and International. starting from International, tailsman lague. Due to job I lives in China now so I tried the Tencent server, which is..... not my taste I have to say, too commercial.

is this the same thing as using argument that industry automation has put people out of job, while in reality it has raised needs for more workers?

or i just inhaled straw?

Nah it isn't, when it is is when it isn't QoL IMO, things like fossils stacking is QoL it isn't a case of harder/easier unless your game had some kind of opportunity cost for item management (like limited clicks, or space that isn't purchased with $$ etc)

If it impacts the game in a way where it can be called easier without argument it certainly isn't still quality of life, really in most cases QoL is opposite to tedium but not all tedious elements of a game have anything to do with difficulty.

The new master mission button for example isn't easier or harder than the previous, but it is a QoL improvement.

Its a subtle difference but when people get to things like AH is QoL or auto loot pickup is QoL they aren't factoring in those are design decisions not just cut and dried improvements.
what happened in Reddit should stay in Reddit and this is not Reddit, people use this forum instead of Reddit for a reason.

in short, if people want Reddit content they will go there themself don't need to bring Reddit here.

Uh huh. Tell me that on my many other threads from there that've been appreciated here cos it brought information from there here. I'm not interested in letting you be the arbiter of what's worthy on Reddit and what isn't. Point is plenty of people do appreciate at least some of the Reddit content, so your sorting algorithm for what should be here and what shouldn't is flawed.

For just a couple of recent examples -

Those are tools though Exile009 and not what is essentially an opinion piece, ironically a fine parallel to quality of life vs ease ^^

Speak for yourself. I dislike reddit, but that doesn't mean I dislike the content that is posted there. I'm happy to see content brought here and discussed by users here.
