Why simulacrum is bad and you shouldn't run it

As some of you know, simulacrum cannot drop stuff like gilded scarabs.

That is because those rewards are tied to the level of area, not the level of monsters. This makes simulacrum a very bad farming place if you can handle red maps with delirious orbs. It simply doesn't compare and it's disappointing for the 'endgame' encounter of the league.

"But the experience is good"

Just no. If you get kosis in last round in a bad layout, you're dead. Sure, you can dodge everything that he throws at you and maybe clear the zone miraculously without dying so you can fight him. If he hits you only one time in wave 20, you're dead. You can't really build max res on all builds and he will have 10% penetration + bonus to that element and physical as extra chaos damage, which is extra rippy for life based characters.

I can tank kosis in t16 maps with 60% delirium modifier. He still hurts like hell, but he doesn't one shot. Damage mods scale his damage into orbit. Moreover, his flurry of spells is insta death if you're caught by it and the bad thing is that he can cast it on sight (whenever you encounter him for the first time) so if you don't have lightning speed reflexes, you'll probably die regardless.

Lastly, the only reason some people do simulacrum is for the voices jewel. I have ran more than 20 simulacrums and I haven't seen one. Return per time investment is bad, even if you average one every 20 runs or so.

My final thought is that simulacrum is a huge noob trap and people who value their exp / currency/h should stay away from it. Take it as a free 90 chaos every a few maps if you pick up the splinters. That's my 2 cents/advice.

Thanks for the PSA. Haven't reached the endgame myself; still grinding through the awful new Atlas.

I wish I were surprised, and that this weren't literally exactly what I was expecting.

You can get valuable stuff from it. I even got a few exalt drops on a few occasions, but on average it is garbage. And don't forget that one is 90c, so you need to get your 90c back first.

After watching a video from ItsYoji on how to make currency, one of the biggest things I was able to take out of his tips was that consistent gains beats potential gains. Sure you can potentially make more than 90c out of running a simulacrum or more than 1.5ex out of running a pure chayula breachstone, but you can also potentially make next to nothing if RNG doesn't favor you that day.

It's a gamble.

Don't want to gamble? Sell the simulacrum for a guaranteed, consistent 90c.

this sounds so much like "you shouldnt run it,because i want to by the shards very cheap"
Why are you spreading false information? Simulacrun can drop gilded scarabs and T14-T16 maps. Today I got a Blighted T16 map from my Simulacrum. ROI shouldn't be the only reason why you play a game tbh

While I would normally agree with this in a number of other games, PoE is an unfortunate exception. Trade is a big factor in one's success unless you're a masochist who plays SSF. Your build isn't going to make a lot of progress if you don't trade for the items you need, and in order for you to do that, you need to ensure a decent currency/h income if you want to see it finished before the league ends.

How will I reach 40/40 if I don’t run simulacrums?

I mean, if you're completing challenges, it's kind of a given that you'd want to run them.

I think OP is arguing from the perspective of risk vs reward if you're running them for any other reason.
