anyone else think spellslinger looks insane?

Animate Weapon looks insane to me.

Not in the "with enough investment this will completely dominate the game and kill end game bosses in less than 2 seconds" but in the "omg, i have less than 40c of gear and i am clearing t16 maps easily" kind of way.

AW will make the old skeleton builds look slow and expensive!

It appears to scale with gem levels even MORE than Herald of Agony, and unlike skeletons, it has the "physical" tag now, so dual wielding cheap cold point daggers will make it crazy strong, +6 gem levels for a 2 alc invenstment.

Gem levels give AW, MORE damage modifier, MORE attack speed modifier, increased base damage, increased number of weapons.

That's insane scaling on gem levels.
Its really not that complicated, Spellslinger is a dual active/support gem.

The support part makes linked spells have 20% base mana reservation that is then modified by all the usual modifiers(linked support gems, passive tree, items you have etc), after this the active part adds together the reservation cost of all the linked skills and reserves that amount of mana when you activate it witch then causes those linked spells to trigger when ever you use a wand attack.

Also based on the wording it should trigger even on default attack with a wand.

I can see triggering with Frenzy linked to GMP, power charge on crit, or perhaps some curse on hit linkage.

From the gem, it says it has a mana override of 20% which I presume means that it reserves 20% per spell regardless of the mana cost of said spell and that the reservation "cannot be further modified". I'm assuming that you could have 1 spell supported by 4 other supports & it would reserve 20%, or you could have it linked to 5 spells & it would reserve 5*20% = 100% of your mana (so you then use blood magic or eldritch battery to be able to use a wand attack which then triggers the spells). but I could be wrong on the reservation.

It sounds interesting, but whether or not it's good enough for the meta crowd I have no idea...

This is not correct. The mana reservation does not stay at 20 with supports.

It works like blasphemy. If you further support the reserved skill, it will reserve more mana. Hence why there was an uproar at the change from 15% per spell to 20% per spell on official release.

Except they will be at least 1exa first week of the league. :D

Herald of Purity builds use it also, and now with AW being meta they will sky rocket in price.

Why?
INSANE reservation costs. You get more than two supports and suddenly you've got pretty much zero mana. Even with one support you've just chunked out your ability to run many heralds without a *TON* of reduced reservation.

not so much...
spellslinger was op when they mention it 1st time, when it was 15% mana reservation.
for now its 20%. with some support its become 50-60% at 6l. Without HEAVY invest to mana reservation reductions it wont be so good.
at start it was nice idea for build on them. for now. hmm its like way to cast bane with curses for wand attacks or sth like this

There is a guide in the witch forums, but I dont like it.
It obviously was a full fledged guide from 3.9 using Chains of Command chest, then modified (not all that well in my opinion) to 3.10

here is a mini guide, not complete, but should get you going.
Great League Start!

Witch start.
Ethereal knives bought from vendor at level 2.
Use any spell you want to get to level 4.
Animate weapon bought from vendor after reaching submerged passage.

Look for linked rbg every time you go to town, wands or armor.

Early 2 supports for AW are Minion Damage and Melee Splash.
Act 2, swap in melee phys support for melee splash.

You can craft a +1 minion helm, once you get the right colors.
Do this twice, once when i get a rbg helm, then again, when you get a rrbg helm.
Vendor helm + alteration + life flask of animation
can craft a life flask of animation via
Vendor bone spirit shield + life flask

End game gear (cheap)
2 x cold iron point daggers
Everything else rares, life/resists/dex.

AW linkage: (3r,b,2g chest)
AW, Empower, Min Dam, Impale, melee phys, fortify or ruthless

end game gear
2x cold iron point daggers
Triad gloves 4 white socket (highest priority for expensive gear)
Amulet with +1 dex gems
Corrupted chest with either or both +1 gem, +2 duration gems
Rares with life/resists/dex/ (and mana if you going MoM)

When you get your triad 4 white socket gloves, swap out impale, and swap in Withering Touch Support.

Spectres in your helm, act 7 fields Carnage chieftains and Host Chieftains
Blood magic, minion life, feeding frenzy supports

Golem, Stone golem (gets the +6 levels from cold iron point)

Offering: I think I will be going spirit offering, cause I need the resists and am planning on chaos damage for minions, but flesh offering gives nice move speed, bone offering gives great block. Cant go wrong. Self cast it, with all the duration you will be stacking, it lasts a LONG time.

Auras: if you are going MoM (I think i am) then just flesh and stone for the defense
If not going MoM then haste or hatred (although hatred has to be turned off in ele reflect maps)
If MoM, then some level of clarity that seems comfortable for your mana pool.
