No XP penalty when dying to bosses

Let's try taking baby steps first. I think a large part of why players hate the XP penalty has to do with bullshit unfair deaths.

1shots
1shots offscreen
1shots from within a clusterfuck of effects
Enemies killing you after they're dead

A lot of players feel like they're being cheated out of 10% XP because something killed them before they could react or even see the thing that was going to kill them.

We should try addressing this first and see how much it has an impact on XP loss.
PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build!

Removing the option to do hard content without risk if you just leveled up SHOULD BE A PRIORITY...

The death EXP penalty should have been moved to the content ran (maps, delve nodes, labyrinth attempts, any God damn thing actually) should always be limited by the number of tries a player will take to complete said content, and also should provide a reasonable death penalty of exactly the said content EXP gained - make the bar glitter with the % gain, and set that gain only to accumulate only if you finish the required "quest" of finishing said content WITHOUT DYING.

So in a way move the EXP penalty closer to the content, so you ALWAYS acknowledge the danger/reward ratios...

You should acknowledge progress, even if it is 0.15% on that damn bar, so you know why you ran said content.

But they should also readjust danger/reward EXP ratios regarding end game content and the current lack of balance regarding said content...

as somebody who used the cheesy option to do maps without delirium, bosses or hard mods to eventually reach lv95 i should be against this idea, but i think it's worth considering the consequences.

if you give players the impression their progress stalled with noy way out, they either reroll or quit.

i dunno how many fuckthisshitidostandardnextleague moments i had in delirium but there were many cause i usually play one char per league.

that's my personal issue, what would change with the game? what price would maps have which have rippy bosses?
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
As a player who immensely prefers to play softcore myself, I'm still going to suggest that everyone should give hardcore a try at least once up to mapping. Players need a bit of re-calibration as far as what "severe punishment" for dying is if the possibility of losing a fraction of a level worth of XP feels severe. It should feel like you have something on the line or you lose all of the excitement of a challenging encounter.

there was a small window of time where this was worth it, it's been between the time they introduced lockstep and the speed meta took over.

this window is closed, i'm not keen to lose my time investment to a single random offscreen projectile.

60% of a level? when all you loose is 10%?.......

Also, don't like it? then learn the fucking boss and don't expect to face roll it with any maps mods you don't care to look at.

10% x 6 deaths... shouldn't be that hard.

And its very likely in regards to specific bosses, you know, the ones that can actually kill well built/well-geared folk for mistakes.
Yep, totally over league play.
Game is dead, people leave after a few weeks from the start of every league, they hope something new but soon realise same rubbish so they leave. Game has past its used by date they have had 7 years and a good run and now they are coming up with mental ideas like delirium and have lost the plot, they don't listen to players just the investors and all about making money and Pay to win content. So many threads about xp loss penalties and they are in denial saying no one complaints about it just look at their interviews you u can tell something is not right up there. Time to move on and play a new game with no trolls, toxic community or idiots. Maybe look at Last Epoche on steam?

A lot of us leave after we've accomplished our league goals, which very well may be a few weeks or so. Once I've beaten all of the content with my character, gotten to the number of challenges I plan to complete, potentially reached some sort of financial goal like "own a headhunter", and run through the top end of the league specific content for a few days at the end, then I go play other games for a while.

I think that's fine, I don't need hundreds or thousands of hours worth of new content and grinds every single league. For a lot of us, checking out after a few weeks of the new league has nothing to do with being dissatisfied with Path of Exile or disappointment with the league mechanic, we just got what we wanted out of it and like playing other games too.
According to its Steam Charts, the game seems to be trending upwards compared to previous seasons. There is no reason to imagine its demise coming anytime soon.

What if they made an extra league version with no penalty? Sure, it would reduce the number of players in the Softcore leagues, but it surely would increase the number of players total, as the casual players that are put off by the penalty could play without it (and they could even play with it when they feel up to the extra challenge), and the more hardcore players would play in the league with the penalty or hardcore.

This.

Claiming that the experience penalty is why the active players drop after the first few weeks is hilariously ignorant. Delirium is one of my all-time favorite leagues, and I got a dozen builds up to 90+, but that doesn't mean I don't want to also spend some free time playing Factorio or Conan Exiles.

I'll be back when the new league launches, just like everyone else.
