No XP penalty when dying to bosses

Hardcore players and Trolls aside the OP is correct in complaining about something that's annoying and part of the mechanics that have players killed to random enemies unless they are slaves to the meta. The high XP penalty is a harsh relic of the early WoW era , back when playing and leveling was a full time job on its own.

it's not trolling if you ask to keep "fuckup free gameplay" rewarding.

even if ggg changed the setback, what would it change?

they could replace it with a "you get no xp for killing the next 10000 monsters", would that make you feel better?

of course there are ways to somehow mitigate the loss without removing the penalty, just give the next 5 bosses you do (of at least the same level) a 10% chance to make you recover 10% of your original xp loss.

it would make players keep playing the game instead removing all incentive to play

Uhhm so convoluted.

If you haven't caught up to life in the last couple of decades let me be the one to inform ya. The xp-penalty as it exists here is an antiquated system that does a hundredfold the harm compared to the benefits in its current form.

Another way many times susperior is to

Increase xp needed by higher level by 100% or more(makes competitive grind longer akin to release poe more) and then one of these two:

Death reduces all xp gained by 15% for the next 10% xp of your current level, stacking up to 4 times for a total of 60% reduction. If you keep dying you will take 2.5 times as long to level.

Could also go with tombstones recover 75% of your lost xp on reclaiming. That would give you chance to recover most, and makes you feel better as well as it would reduce the impact of the random oneshot by 75% and give you a chance to give up on the current fight with 1 portal left if you can't handle and don't get set too far back which generally just causes players to avoid challenging content. If you do decide to go on till you run out of portals it will be your own choice and makes you feel better about losing a full penalty.
I am the light of the morning and the shadow on the wall, I am nothing and I am all.

they considered that 8 years ago in their manifesto, it takes away the motivation to continue playing.

i also think it's better to realise your loss, rage a little, and return to full xp gain asap.

slowing down future xp gain also removes the option to do hard content without risk if you just levelled up.
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
I'm now lvl 95 on my second character. Every time i feel like I am quite tanky untill something just oneshots me and takes away my xp again. Often times I'm completely clueless to what actually caused my death. I'm scared to do higher and more rewarding content because of the xp penalty and lvling takes forever on lower content so now i just hang around the hideout and trade stuff.
OP is right to a certain degree...the xp loss really doesn't bother me much BUT...the one shot mechanics, over powered bosses etc etc is what fries my egg. I have a few minion builds and having 10+ zombies, 12-14 skellies, 2 golems and a vaal skelly (24) and somehow that one mob will go invisible and POOF...right in front of me by passing all my minions and one shots me...htf does that actually work? lol. I can blow through the story pretty quick but it seems as I reach T1 maps, my builds go to shit. But I get extremely tired of remaking character's just to find out that another build bites the dust...and I do follow some builds....

This league has been the most frustrating for me...how many times can that same trash unique drop??? holy crap! lol If you want to do higher content, you're at the mercy sometimes of way over priced stuff. But the streamers seem to have all that figured out...amazing how they always have the stuff to do those incredible builds lol...oh, and I hate the crafting in this game...still can't figure this sht out several years later lol

It seems to me that you are expecting a game with absolutely no difficulty for minion builds ....
Most good games have mechanics to not have the pets take the agro of all mobs 100% of the time, because it would be boring as hell as minion builds would just be pretty much invincible.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

I think you missed what I was trying to say about having minions and getting ghosted out of nowhere...but you see what you want to see.
No I didn't.
