Sophisticated game

because you referenced my text, marceus in marketplace used to cast lightning thorns on his shield which reflected damage.

at least he used to.

Marceus the Defaced uses Tempest Shield, which shoots a chaining lightning beam (similar to arc) when he blocks an attack. This is not at ALL the same as the reflect buff used by Izaro's Lieutenant and the Racecourse map boss, because reflect scales damage based on your damage and is therefore substantially more dangerous. It's the kind of very important distinction that adds depth to POE, and which OP wants to get rid of for all the wrong reasons.

Wouldn't diminishing returns disincentivize people to min-max and therefore spend more time farming for the perfect gear? If after some point the damage goes way lower than it is on paper and in practice the results are barely any different I know I wouldn't bother chasing upgrades and will leave a league much faster.

^This

I played a lot during xmas holidays and Im running a pretty braindead build I knew beforehand was going to deal just fine with overtuned bosses, because I was expecting and frankly hoping for a harder league.

Now if I was putting in 10 hrs a day and someone else just 1 hr a day.
Plus I might be 3 times as efficient as the other guy, which means my 10 hrs are worth 30 hrs of his playtime, then why shouldnt I be able to deal 30x as much dmg as he does?
Thats balanced too - just from another perspective.

We´ve had plenty leagues now where glasscannon speedclear builds dominated, because they could delete bosses just fine in a few seconds.
It didnt even really matter what you did, you always ended up with enough dmg to destroy the endgame easily.
Choices didnt matter anymore and the game became a snoozefest.

Finally that changed and ofc less builds are capable of handling the toughest stuff in the game - as it should be.
Like if you asked 1000 people to climb a 30 foot hill, probably all of them could do it. If you asked the same 1000 people to climb Mount Everest maybe 1 or 2 or even none of them could do it.
Lame example I know, but you get the picture.

I get thats frustrating for some players, but at the very least you have a goal to strife for. Why do you have to take away or diminish the work I put into this? How is that fair?
Prior to this league I felt ready to go after Shaper in mid 80ies with random gear, because nothing really mattered. I just couldnt get access to him and was forced to farm boring content forever to get a few minutes fun in tougher fights.
There was no reason to grind or upgrade gear very early in the game already and that was just bad. It felt horrible.

Im thankful this changed, although I expect this to be short lived.
Soon enough new toys will be around, allowing more powercreep and thus enable more builds to climb Mount Everest.
This is just preparing the ground for more powercreep, nothing more.

Allow me to enjoy the 1st tough league in years before inevitably powercreep will be at the same lvl as before.
