Having us kill civilians in Oriath Square is tasteless.

I was leveling a new character the other day and got to this part again. Here is how it went:

- There were Oriath Citizens running from some allied Karui NPCs, but there were Templar soldiers engaged in a fight and blocking the Karui from giving chase so I gave it a second to allow the citizens to run off screen to safety before killing the Templars. The Karui NPCs were too far away to engage the citizens.

- I ran through the center part of the map like I usually do. Maybe I am just lucky but this is the part of the map where most of the fighting takes place and citizens never spawn in the most direct path through the square. I did check to see if any died off screen but none that I could tell.

- When I was back in the alleyway portion where the door to the Templar Courts was, I was expecting to see more citizens but never did since the door was so nearby after leaving the main fighting path.

- As soon as I used the Eyes of Zeal to open the door I got an immediate game over because according to OP the game is "Having us kill civilians in Oriath Square", 'having the hero of the story kill "frightened citizens"' so obviously I did something wrong and have to play that section and do it correctly.
You know, they could have named them:
"Fleeing Slave Owners"
"Fleeing Corrupt Oriathian Noble"
etc... (anything to give the player's character a reason to want them dead, or at least not care one way or another, or see "they got what they deserved" or some justification.)

Or they could have made them non-interactable set-pieces like background butterflies that you can't hurt.

But they decided to make them killable targets with the only justification for killing them being that they're "probably" bad people because they live in Oriath (if you're looking for a way to justify it, and care about it at all, and obviously, there are people who care about their actions, even in video games, despite it being pixels.)

The Bandits earlier in the game were not "good innocent people" ... they were making life miserable for the camp we interact with who seemed to be just trying to survive. I don't recall all the background story told about them and if they killed anyone specifically important to any of the shopkeeper-townspeople, but regardless, when you travel through bandit territory, their forces attack you relentlessly until you make it to their leaders. I found nothing redeeming in these leaders' dialog that would make me want to keep them alive and cooperate in giving them even more power to abuse. There is no negotiation for peace there.

Now, in PoE, IF there were a options setting where you could turn off targeting non-aggressors, and this sort of decision were enforced throughout the game, I would see no problem in them doing exactly as they have done... but here, in this ONE instance, by normal game mechanics used to go through the rest of the game, your actions frequently result in the deaths of potential innocents.

I also think it's distasteful.
It never gives me a bad conscience, but I do reflect on what I think of the devs that made that happen.

So ...
- taking revenge through murder <=> killing random unarmed people just because they're there ?

Killed children. So yes, already killed plenty of helpless people because they were just there.

- Killing for a living, as a job <=> killing random unarmed persons just because they're there ?

As I've repeatedly pointed out, he doesn't just do it as a job. He turned his hobby into a job. Listen to his damn speaking lines! He is obviously a sick fuck who gets off on murder.
Furthermore, the Trade Manifesto delenda est.

Bone Mommy did nothing wrong. I want to join the Syndicate.

applying real life morals to a video game is like bringing a real gun to a laser gun fight
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
If you find it that upsetting then move thorugh the zone without killing them.

If you want to roleplay a good character then do it, dont expect the game to change for you because you want to half-ass your roleplaying.
lol
Stop projecting weakness OP. Not a good look.

Dry your eyes and man up princess :)
This is a real, grown up man crying over NPCs being killed.

Holy shit, Poe's law in full effect.

And this is a real, grown up man crying over someone else's post.

Holy shit, Poe's law in full effect.

The above two sentences are just as ridiculous as your two sentences since neither the OP nor you were crying about anything.
