Vaal side area... in maps?
" Adding a portal as an extra terrain feature, like a Labyrinth trial, would be possible. However, Vaal side areas are thematically designed as corrupted offshoots of their parent areas, and that visual link would cease to exist if we attach a random subarea via portal. " Technically we could do that, but favouring certain maps for content additions is not something we do very often. I imagine the design lads have their reasons for this; my job is just to make things look pretty. " Possible, but with the same reservations as the previous question. Most unique maps do have just one layout graph (there are a few exceptions) but multiple graphs doesn't usually affect implementation time too much. | |
the interaction between vaal winds + the red queen + extra vaal packs sextants could open some potential if a return of the vaal league ever happens in the future..
right now the fragments are very outdated but the entire side vaal area could open for something else in the future.. that's if 4.0 or future leagues keeps the atlas as main focus for endgame. "Parade your victories, hide your defeats. Mortals are so insecure."
Once you break the cycle of fear no angels or demons can whisper you their sweet nothing words. poe2 = ruthless 2.0 = bad. |

" Why not map as a vaal area itself with no map boss, just vaal mini boss with guaranteed fragment? Killing it does nothing to atlas.. not sure if its good idea though.. I dislike rarity so much im almost quitting poe2. GGG.

Dude just do your alvas (short answer)
A lot of Alva temple junk isn't as fun as uncapping a vaal vessel and getting a frag or two, some vaal gems, and sometimes a Her Mask or a Catalyst or a crappy white weapon with 2-3 white sockets (a no-brainer for swap sets to level good stuff in). It would be nice to bring that back. Each temple of Atzoatl might have a chance to spawn 1-3 Vaal vessels just chillin' in some of the various low-tier rooms with no altars/breaches/strongboxes/legions. Just to bring back the feels of Vaal side areas for people who want the challenge of a high level temple but miss the Vaal-themed and nearly universally useful loot. (long answer) I guess the third option is keep feeding frags to the machine and hope you break even on frags. Or slavishly run foothills for those forgotten gulches we know and love so well. We decided that was an acceptable compromise. ;)

" You guys implemented this after the thread discussion? If so that is one of the coolest things I've heard in awhile. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

"A random portal for them really is kinda awkward/off thematically though. Hopefully it's something you guys can revisit in the future. I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.

I think vaal side areas are cool and could be more challenging and rewarding in maps.
Would also solve the prophecy issues, its a pain to get Prophecies in side areas when your mapping. |

"Some of them will also probably be quite dangerous in hard maps, or in high tier ones anyway. That little guy that spreads lightning fields and hits hard is one that comes to mind. I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German. Last edited by aggromagnet#5565 on Dec 6, 2019, 3:43:05 PM
