What about a Vaal Portal instead? No need to build entrance rooms, and the tileset of the vaal side area could be whatever.

But then it isnt a vaal side area in maps.

I mean how would you determine monster/area level, or map type/layout? How many portals do get or using the map device?

Sorry if I wasn't clear: A constant portal to a vaal side area, spawning inside the map itself - and the tile set of the side area would be random, at least to a certain degree.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

Yes but where do you get vaal frags once you get to maps?! paradox paradox

Basically like incursions and abyssal depths.

Or GGG could make so that the map itself would be used as a vaal area.
You activate a Vaal device, then the map become a Vaal zone until you've found and slain the Vaal boss who would had spawn with a Vaal vessel.

Hmm, looks like a league mechanics...

why there are no vaal side areas in maps? :(

Chris has stated that GGG has no simple way to automate the location of Vaal side areas in zones or maps and that it must be inserted by hand to get the graphics and pathing to work correctly for each zone or map. That amount of extra human work precludes the wide use of Vaal side areas in maps. We can hope that GGG will eventually code a utility that can simplify or automate this so we can get them more often.

This is roughly the situation. It's not implausible to add Vaal side areas, but it would require a level design pass over every relevant map. well then rather to make them exclusive on EVERY single map of the atlas how about certain ones?

Uhhh, no issue there. Her Mask cards drop fairly often in many maps, and bosses in corrupted maps can drop frags. Then there's Vaults of Atziri, Lab treasure, and Temple. Can't some Delve nodes cough them up, too? Oh, and you might get one or more in the Vaal Area itself when you run it.

It's not hard at all to get more of them... :D

As for other comments on actually adding side areas directly to maps, why would they go through the trouble when they've already got an easy way for people to access them?
I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.
I can't imagine why anyone would waste time doing vaal side areas even if they were in maps past the first 2 days of a league.

This is such an absurd request to ask GGG to devote time to this when they have to get 4.0 out in one year.

it would be very interesting for a future return of the vaal league eventually.

still, I don't see the point in adding a vaal side area on all maps.

Could you add a chance for Vaal Side Areas to corrupted Unique maps? They have the same layout all the time, dont they?
