PoE 2 servers are restarting in: .
They should be back up in approximately .We all know PoE "requires" an SSD
" I have poe on a SSD and a normal HD The HD takes like 5mins to get to where you can login then you go to enter the world and it takes about another 5mins and fails to load because i guess it took to long? 2 times in a row On the 3rd try it will login and then take about 5mins to load all the items and your stash and then be ok till you try to log on again i think (or restart) |

What I've learned in this thread:
- HDD is good enough - NVMe M.2 is faster than an SSD - NVMe M.2 is not faster than an SSD - NVMe m.2 is only technically better than an SSD - You won't notice any difference going from M.2 to an SSD - You will notice a difference going from M.2 to an SSD - Numbers don't count - Numbers count Got to love the internet :) Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

"Im using two samsung evo pro 1TB in raid 0. and loadings are amazing. I know all player come and say : "ahahah nice, u have try a bot u get ban, sooo nice" but i tell u its just for try, for see and for know. I have use this 10 minutes maximum and i have insta uninstall." - some not-too-bright dude, 2013; Joined 2012, † 2013.

@Phrazz Yup xD
Okay I think this is the general consensus. From HDD to SSD the difference is quite substantial. SSD to M.2 not so much. On paper M.2 has very good numbers vs SSD. In practice (loading in games) its not so much, but yes there is 5-10% improvement. If you can afford an M.2 and you upgrade from HDD, do it. If you already have an SSD then you'll have some thinking to do. If money is not a cap to you, then yes get 2x Samsung 2TB M.2 NVME drives and while doing it get that damn Ryzen 9 3950x and overclock it, plug in your favorite Geforce RTX 2080 Ti, smack in 4x 32Gb Corsair RAM, liquid cooling and RGB. " I will help You out with this BS :) ad 1: HDD is good enough - well I can imagine only a person who have never used an ssd can say that, or someone who doesnt care about the overall quality of his/her pc ad 2: NVMe M.2 is faster than an SSD - well this is kinda mixed statement. M.2 is in fact an SSD. What this statement was meant to say is M.2 SSD is faster than SATA SSD. which is true. Average sata ssd is 500 mb/s, M.2 (depending on quality and technology) is easly up to 3500 mb/s. My raid 0 is reaching almost 3700 mb/s ad 3: You won't notice any difference going from M.2 to an SSD - that is simply not true. Although the difference will be smaller than the difference between hdd vs sata ssd Overall it is good investment because games are getting bigger and bigger and while now difference is small it will grow bigger in the future. And remember that loading times are not as important as actual data streaming from your drive (while already playing) and this is the part that might be crucial in the future. Hope I helped a bit. :) I know all player come and say : "ahahah nice, u have try a bot u get ban, sooo nice" but i tell u its just for try, for see and for know. Every loading screen takes a split second with an NVMe M.2.
Having gone through the HDD->SATASSD->M.2SSD path myself, I can confirm that there is a huge jump from HDD to SATASSD and a noticeable but smaller jump from SATASSD to M.2SSD It's still worth it though, those extra 2 - 3 seconds saved on every loading screen the game throws at you add up over the course of a league, especially if the league has some kind of zone reset strat like harbour bridge in betrayal. At least we aren't still in the days when starting the game took like 5 minutes even for the people on beast PCs. Souls along a conduit of blood, from one vessel to the next.

I threw my HDD away a long time ago. No gamer with self respect has his main game(s) on a HDD.
The reason(s) behind this thread, wasn't "if it's worth it". As I wrote in the OP, I've aldready ordered the damn thing (for several reasons outside of PoE). The thread was about what kind of improvements I could expect - if improvements at all. Someone is saying 5-10% going from SSD to NVMe M.2, which seems fair - I'll take it. Thanks for the replies. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

" When you install a NVME M2 Card, it will by default use the SATA controller, which is the excact same speed as any other SSD. However if the motherboard supports the NVME technology it can be changed in the bios to use the PCI controller. It is a lot faster as you saw in my previous post. There is a lot of missconceptions in this thread. It is not so much about which type of storage unit it is.. but rather which architecture they operate on. If i had the money for it all my drives would probaly be NVME. If i had to point out one downside to using SSD, it would be that it is harder to salvage files on it if it breaks, if not impossible. "Yea, I did simplify it, and besides if u like u can plug ur M.2 SSD to the pci-e port directly via adapter keeping full transfer speed. Provided You have hardware for it. Last edited by Sarn88#3369 on Dec 2, 2019, 5:29:07 AM

" in the excamples you mentioned, the difference is huge. I agree, there are cases where it does not really matter. It takes me about 2 secs to turn on the pc, the only thing slowing down the boot up is post screen and my raid controller window. i allso mentioned that the difference from Nvme m2 to a normal SSD is not that great. 1-3 secs on average i said. It is up to you if that matters. It really just depends on the size/requirements of the application. Obviously data transfers are a lot faster.
