GIVE US A COMBAT LOG OR SOMETHING

You must have heard this a thousand times so you probably don't care, but I must voice my frustration. I'm a new player, started this league. I just died 7-8 times and have no idea why. I'm just running around, while my minions kill things and then BOOM. This feels fucking bad because I don't see how I can get better when I've no idea what's happening.

The client already receives all combat events, so it won't load your servers. Just let us see a fucking combat log to know why we're dying. At the very least add icons or something really visible to rare monsters. Being a Necromancer means there are already at least 20 mobs on me, how the fuck am I supposed to notice things in that blob of color??????????

will never happen. too much data.
Its perfectly normal to not to know what you died to if you are a new player. You ll learn in time. Dont rush it.
+too much data to extract from servers = busier servers.
Trust your mind and strengthen your abilities!

It most likely doesn't... It receives an event saying to change your life/ES to X (this is probably done Y times per second, and is an aggregate of the damage you've suffered, regen and leech), and then if you die it receives an event saying that you died.

To log what actually happened, when you're in a close fight with 50 mobs, degen effects, buff effect and who knows what is a horrible amount of data to either store or transmit, and it will by and large never be used since most people just shrug at deaths and keep playing.

Not in any way worth the development effort, server capacity or network bandwidth.

Looking at your build, it is fairly clear. Your defences are almost non-existent. You're a glass cannon...

You have decent life, but a small amount of armour, a tiny amount of evasion/ES, the Phase Acrobatics chain, a Tabula Rasa (no defence from your main piece of armour) and a Steelskin CoDT. That is the recipe for repeated one-shot deaths.

To survive in the upper tiers of maps (which you must be in at level 93), you need multi-layered defences.

Man you're making a good poi-

>looks at character

...

I mean, you've got a tabula with all the same color gems, a useless shield because Necromantic Aegis, piddly life on your gear, Quick Recovery, Revenge of the Hunted, flame dash, a bismuth flask, Phase Acrobatics, no Quartz flask, and 3 offensive auras.. You're like a glass operator of a normal cannon lol anything can kill you with ease. Especially with acro, all it means is that your dodge roll(s) failed, and you simply didn't have enough ehp to withstand whatever.

It is a good idea, but you should already know what's happening based on how you've built.
Combat logging works just fine in Everquest raids with 54 people, yet here you are insisting on the impossibility of such wizardry.

If they make the log only viewable in-game they don't have to send a single extra byte until you actually look at it. They'd just have to send the part you are viewing in the log window and send updates as you scroll through it. (like the delve map)

You're comparing apples and bikes. Retrofitting features like that after this long is essentially 'wizardry'... (i.e. so expensive that it in reality can't be done, because of cost)

They would still have to record and store the info on the server, which would be a huge cost.

Using this particular case, there would be no useful information either... since what killed him/her was not any of the mobs, but being a glass cannon... It's the usual killer for a new player...

I'm following a guide and getting the money for an armour. I'm not complaining I'm getting killed, I'm complaining there is no useful feedback from the game itself. Without that a frustrated player is very likely to just leave in despair. After all, we love the game and want it to prosper, right? Making up excuses for the primitive UI is counterproductive.

Of course it is possible to have a combat log as other games demonstrate. No, the client isn't getting aggregated damage from the server, because every single thing is being shown with animations, so the client already knows everything that is happening to you.

Apples are not bikes...

It would be possible if built in from the beginning, but it wasn't, nor is it financially feasible to retrofit it at this late stage.
