I have received many comments saying viewers of my Youtube and Twitch feel a bit shame that they cannot play Auto-Detonating Volatile Dead(VD) Miner anymore in 3.8.

Yes, Mine's changed. It does not consume mana but reserve, so the previous scold's bridle mechanics cannot be achieved anymore. So what? I still have TRAP! :)

As soon as I heard some of my viewers desperately want to play Auto-Detonating VD Miner, I decided to make a trapper build that does exactly same.

There was a big problem though. Trap can be triggered automatically as soon as it's thrown by reducing trap duration with some items. But, GGG's nerf on Scion-Saboteur ascendancy skill (maximum 20% of life regen to maximum 10% of life regen) was hard to handdle. Finally, I came to have high life, and high life regen. from various sources.

This build kills Uber Elder like piece of cake, one shot for both Shaper and Elder phase turn in the beginning of the fight.

Also, it can clear T15 blight maps. But, when there is a boss with proximity shield, it gets much harder than bodyswap totem build I made.

Mechanics

1. Sunblast belt + Cheap Construction Jewel = 100% reduced trap duration = Auto-Trigger right after traps land on the ground.

2. Scold's Bridle (your skills deal you 400% of mana spend on skill mana costs as physical damage) + Voidbringer gloves (51% increased mana cost) --> total VD trap mana cost x 4 x 0.51 = About 530 physical damage taken every time you throw traps --> Trigger desecrate and unearth that generate corpses for VD by Cast When Damage Taken Support Gem --> Thrown VD Trap consumes corpses from those two desecrate and unearh skills and generate 9 VD balls per one throw.

3. Through mods from Watcher's Eye and Rings, you get mana regen as you take physical damage above and with help of mana regen mods on items and passive nods, you get to have non-stop trap throws.

4. Through items, Saboteur Ascendancy and passive nods, you get enough life regen to have your hp full while throwing VD traps.

5. By having Ball lightning linked with CWDT + Curse on Hit + 20 lvl. Flammability , you get 44% fire penetration on enemies all the time.



Current Gear (Must set the amount of mana and mana regen number, and hp and life regen number same as mine or higher than mine. Otherwise hp will not regenerate enough to keep you alive or you cannot throw traps non-stop due to short of mana.)

1. Note that you only need to look for Watcher's eye with '20% (18, 19%) of damage taken as mana...' (about 20 - 30 chaos)

if you want to boost up DPS by having duel wand setting, you will need 22% increased life recovery rate while vitality mod also. I bought mine 50 chaos only.

2. Note Voidbringer's 51% increased mana cost. If you are a nub, just look for exactly same as mine (51%). If the number is too small, you won't have your corpse cwdt'ed. If too big, your mana and life will be 0 while throwing traps.

3. Note that I have high rate of mana regen in two rings. you need them. Also, 6% of damage taken as mana from crafting bench (prefix) is also must-have.

4. This build needs as high hp as possible for enough hp regeneration. Look for rare body armor with high hp + 1% of life regen. Also, rare rings and amulet must have high hp as well.

5. Note that I have about total 2.2 of life regen. on my amulet. You must have the rate.

Upgrading Build

1. Change your wand to 5 - 6 ex crafted wand for fire spell (typical one with Gain 20% of fire damage as Extra Chaos Damage...blah blah)

4. mods that boos up dps on two rings.

5. I am planning to upload Low Life ES Version here (only if I don't move to my next build. I have tons of new builds to make. heh heh)

Thanks for the build! I was looking at doing as a miner before the changes and now it looks like I can! I'll probably do this as a necro using spirit offering and Mistress of Sacrifice.

Looking at your POB and your self damage calculation: VD mana x 4 x 0.51. Your POB has 141 mana cost, so I think the formula is (141 x 4) x 0.51 = 851.64?

If CWDT at level 1 is 528 damage to trigger and 141 VD mana cost with Scolds (400%) is 564, why do you even need voidbringers? Also if you just needed a bit more mana cost wouldn't Doedre's Malevolence be better?


**Update**: I looked at POB again and it appears to add the glove mana cost in the total so for calculating from POB you'd just use the VD mana total x 400% for your overall mana cost. Therefore with your 141 mana, it would be 564 damage and would work with CWDT level 1. Doedre's Malevolence would be 143 x 400% = 572 damage.

Doedre's Malevolence would be approximately 20k more damage per VD Ball in your POB.

Other thing I noticed, if you do stick with the voidbringers, it makes more sense to move your wave of conviction to the gloves from helmet so that the Added Fire Damage can use the +1 to Level of Socketed Elemental Gems.

1. I also thought of using Doedre's Malevolence, but its mana cost is too much for life regen. The life regen vs. dmg from mana cost has no room to take extra +8 from doedre. You will have to abandon herald of ash and use vitality if you have doedre, which means you cannot better off in the end.

2. I am usually too lazy to change the color and put gems on the right places. :)
(I let people to change the gem places when they see my pob. heh) It's definitely good to have those gems in gloves.
I like the concept of using traps. makes you immune to ele reflect. Not sure if I like it more than CWC+Cyclone (mobility mostly) but it's a cool take on this.

That said...

have you tried switching to Necromancer Mini Ascendancy and using Spirit offering to mitigate Scold's? This is the method I use in my build and completely eliminates the need for the excessive Life regen gear. Doing this will actually give you MORE recovery as you gain more ES than damage is dealt to you in addition to giving you upwards of 1.5k ES and 18% All Ele Res for free.

That's my input on it anyways. Cool take on the skill though.
