Blight going core will suck and frustrate most players

" But that would require giving players choice. And that's not been something given freely by GGG for a long time now. You want to choose when to tackle the most challenging material and not get unfairly penalizing one-shot deaths; i.e., not only when your exp bar is close to zero? Fuck off. You want to choose which kind of past league material to engage in, other than the options we spoonfeed you with the mission system and/or Zana mods? Fuck off. (Granted, they've done better in this area than others, especially lately.) You want to choose your own build archetype and reasonably compete with others in any given league? Seriously, FUCK OFF. The irony here is that RPGs (including ARPGs) have typically been most appealing to players due to their inclusion of elements of choice. But GGG is too afraid of losing control, in part because of their own inability to manage this "jumbled mess," as you say. And that goes for builds as well. Why is there an obvious meta every league? Because they design it! They don't want a meta arising which they can't anticipate and control for. It isn't a stretch to suggest that this attitude stretches into other design areas as well. All League inclusion decisions are impacted by it as well. In their defense, they've introduced so many variables that it would be hard for any team to anticipate actual genuine meta gameplay. Perhaps they should be paranoid. But removing choice is, from a gameplay design POV, one of the most horrible things you could do. (Yeah, maybe not from a business POV. But then there's the rub, right? Is PoE a game or a business?) Wash your hands, Exile! Last edited by gibbousmoon#4656 on Nov 24, 2019, 8:27:41 AM

" Vaal BV is very handy even on an attack based build. You need some sort of strong AoE skill/aspect as projectiles with finite targetting run out. You don't beat every single one though,if you could then it would be no fun as it would mean it lacks challenge. |

I think most of us can agree that the blight mechinic itself isnt very good. I didnt bother trying it until the rewards got buffed. Now I'm trying to annoint as many amulets as possible incase it doesnt go to standard (I hope it does). Annointed amulets will be worth a ton.

" While "most of" the people attending Exilecon do not agree. It's fun when people think they belong to some kind of majority, when in reality they have no clue at all. Anyhow, I like(d) Blight very much, and think it was a very fun league. That said, I think it is better as a league mechanics than it is as a core mechanic. As long as they keep oils and blighted maps, I will be happy. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

I for one absolutely love Blight! It's a fun little tower defense game that is completely optional - if you don't want to do it, just walk past it and there you go, no harm.
Perhaps the performance could be tweaked because it kinda sucks playing IL Necromancer and having an absolute lag fest. Regardless, this tower defense stuff is definitely something I'd like to see more of! |
