There are so many good games on the market today that sticking to PoE looks like masochism. Anyway, even the biggest fanatics leave, such as "always 40/40" :P
None of those new games coming out seem like they have the potential to be as great as PoE can though. They're all too focused on doing certain ARPG aspects well. PoE is trying to be great at every ARPG aspect and be a great all around game too.
Well, except PoE is not arpg anymore. It is action shooter combined with stock market simulator (very convoluted, btw) and currently tower defense elements. Anyway, there are really many good games, but PoE fanatics do not see them, because they have to sit in their second job for eight hours a day :)
PoE is one of most in-depth ARPG's in the world. It is definitely an arpg.

I really doubt Blizzard will veer back to their old ARPG model with D4. They will repeat the same mistakes and rely on the that hype build-up for a huge hit of initial box sales and begin their usual development cycle.
Blizzard are so worried about third party sites and greedy for profit that they eliminated half the reason for playing these ARPGs - looting/trading. A perfect example of a solution that's worse than the problem. If they announce no real trading in D4, nothing will change. No BoP, no BoE , no stupid "you can trade only to 3 people within 2 hour of receiving loot". Actually PROPER TRADING.
From the '' present past future '' article by Jason Schreier.
“Another pillar of Fenris(D4) is to make Diablo more social, taking inspiration from Destiny to add what one current Blizzard developer called “light MMO elements,” further drawing on Blizzard’s past massively multiplayer online success.”
I personally think it makes a lot of sense for several reasons, mainly because Blizzard no longer has the luxury of a World of Warcraft in its prime to fall back on like they did when Diablo 3 was released back in 2012, they're likely going all in on D4 in terms of, Multiplayer longevity, monetization and will therefore not pursuit the limited model of Diablo 3.
I believe skeptics(although i don't blame them, given D3 history and the last con disaster) underestimate the potential of D4 quite a bit, in fact i think it is GGG and Path of exile that needs to step up massively in terms of making PoE a better multiplayer/party friendly game, hopefully 4.0 and beyond will do precisely this, otherwise i don't see how it will compete if the rumours about D4 are in fact real, we'll see.

I hope you are right because PoE just don't cut it for me anymore... it feels like they don't give a damn what they release anymore.
I would rather play clown fiesta in poe that see how quickly last epoch would make me vommit with flying damage text popups. Oh wait, its so much more evolved. BLOCK words are also such a nice nice popups. We need that more in poe. For ultimate experience ;) ;)
I dislike rarity so much im almost quitting poe2. GGG.

Maybe those popups suck BUT at least their inventory has an autosort button! On the other hand who cares about a game now that needs at least another 5 years to become a full grown game?

at the moment Grim Dawn is best aRPG and Last Epoch and Wolcen seems very promising, i feel that PoE has been going down hill for a long time.
I agree. From an ARPG standpoint, Grim Dawn is without any doubt the best out there. But Wolcen looks really promising (and good, boy does it look good. and the music!). And i am pretty sure that we will get a glimpse of D4 soon. So POE has to step up quickly. And massively.
GD is a good game no doubt and wolcen looks really promising but it maybe has 10% of poe's content when it starts. And "we will get a glimpse of D4 soon"? I couldn't care less! D3 isn't a bad game for 1 day or 2 but after that you already have everything so the long term motivation is sadly zero. I REALLY do not believe in blizzard making a great new diabolo anymore.
Man, you really believe in your signature ;) It's true that the hopes for a good, deep, complex and somehow "hard" D4 should be low. But (of course there is a "but"): Blizzard is Blizzard. They still have the potential to do something great. There is still room for Schönheit ;)
That's enough for me to stay open minded and somewhat hopeful. We'll see ...
About the 10% of the content: Sure. But GD and Wolcen also have only 10% of the bullshit at the moment. Except for the typical ARPG RNG, there are a lot of slot-machine aspects that in my opinion ruin POE missing. And that's good. Quantity? Fine. Quality? Better. Or to say it in another german saying: "Das Beste oder nichts".

Well, it is though. regardless of how much you dislike the gameplay. It's got more action and character progression than any other game.
Well, it stopped being an ARPG around 1.4.0, as that was the time power creep became mandatory, loot started dropping like candy, and difficulty went downhill.
PoE still has decent amounts of action, but it should also be relegated to a "pew-pew arcade shooter" mandatory meta focused Clicker Heroes subgenre these days.
Heck, Borderlands series is more an ARPG than PoE these days, regarding the ACTION (way better than PoE at anytime) and the RPG side - as shallow as they are, the RPG elements like loot and character progression are above those from PoE by a landslide, you actually FEEL that gradually progression and better loot as you play the game way better than in PoE...
Beside, real ARPGs like Grim Dawn, simply lack the MMO aspect that PoE does "so well" ("humans being humans" and all), and Wolcen and Last Epoch will be at least decent. Throw in some W40K Inquisitor Martyr, Darksiders Genesis and even Torchlight Frontiers, and competition starts to show, so I understand why PoE needs to constantly improve...
But do run any of the other "completed" games, and enjoy a game where most of the times, you will not experience "slow downs", as the technical aspects and graphics simply "JUST WORK", and that is one of the reasons why PoE got so much flak regarding it's lackluster performance since Betrayal onwards...
As I said before, PoE needs to "git gud & up to snuff", especially if they want to keep their status as the top game of the "genre"...
Just how slow does a game have to be for you to consider it an ARPG? Go play Diablo 1, lol
