Toxic Global Chat
@OP
You clearly haven't played too many games with global chat in your time, otherwise you would realise that the scum always floats to the top. Don't ever expect a real answer if you are giving anyone the chance to flex on you or troll you behind the relative anonymity of a pc screen in an online game. Granted you might get one, but when it comes to ingame items or any mechanics that aren't incredibly obscure, then just use the wiki or google a question. Chances are if it isn't set down in the wiki, someone has asked it on reddit at some point. Personally I'm of two minds, I do completely agree that global (1 specifically) is a degenerate hive of fuck, but on the other hand from the perspective of knowing not to expect real answers from there, I find it absolutely hilarious. Can always count on global 1 for a good laugh if I'm doing a boring grind in game, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Souls along a conduit of blood, from one vessel to the next.

I've always found the idea of "RL" as an alternative to "online" unhelpful. This is real life. It's not fake. It's not imaginary. We're real people, really communicating with other real people. Digital text is just a different communication medium from face-to-face conversation, but it's hardly the first such media we've invented. It's not okay to attack and belittle strangers over the phone or in a letter, and it's not okay here for the exact same reasons.
Companies that don't sufficiently moderate their community spaces are responsible for the rot that grows in that absence. Every company that takes a hands-off approach is actively helping normalise abusive behaviour. It's understandable, of course, that most organisations with huge user bases cannot, in purely practical terms, moderate spaces open to that entire population. If that's the case, that's fine, don't establish them then. Do it properly or don't do it. Last edited by GusTheCrocodile#5954 on Sep 1, 2019, 5:54:13 AM

" Ok fine - I conceed, you are indeed correct. That's exactly what I meant but was unable to convey - since it doesn't involve numbers, but instead words, which I will freely admit to being shit at. You sir, are far better at words than I will ever be. It's just difficult when you work with teenagers, and you hear reports of bullying which lead to the suicide of one student, and that resulted in the suicide of another. Two very needless deaths that could possibly have been avoided if people were just nicer to each other. All online... That's real life peoples... It happened in the school 20km up the road from the one I teach in 6 months ago, and students are still reeling from that impact. Suitably crestfallen, Matt. There are 10 types of people. Those that know binary, and those that dont.

" Too much work to individually investigate causes of toxic conversations, even with dozens of mods, considering how big the user count is & easy it is to create free als accounts in case if they get banned. It literally a sisyphus task. Wisest solution is indeed to ignore global chat (aka. trash dump) and create custom (goal/topic related) channels or use guild chat, as this would be the most efficient way to communicate and avoid spam and toxicity. Masterpiece of 3.16 lore
"A mysterious figure appears out of nowhere, trying to escape from something you can't see. She hands you a rusty-looking device called the Blood Crucible and urges you to implant it into your body." Only usable with Ethanol Flasks |

Why do these people post in everything everywhere saying how hard it was being logged into the internet where people can say things. Its always what they dont say... Basically everyone should have to get approval from a corporation to have an opinion. No thanks OP.
Also, getting 40 challenges in legion not seeing a fossil? Nope. No chance. The 500 delves or all of rhe fossils that drop from the legion encounters... No chance in Hell. Prob a fake account to agitate for some fake agenda. Shame on the OP for this garbage. Last edited by Essi#1599 on Sep 1, 2019, 12:46:49 PM

He didn't know what that particular fossil did and asked in global rather than look it up himself. People shit on him for it. You could literally go on global and say that you liked kittens and people would shit on you for it.
That this offended him is the falsehood here, not that he didn't know what a fossil was. |

" WALL OF TEXT INCOMING.... you've been warned.
Spoiler
A. The Mosh Pit Scenario
Do you point at a mosh pit and say: "That is 100% unnecessary and 100% unpleasant"? To YOU, that might be a valid comment. You don't want to join in, then don't. That's fine. Yea, odds are you are going to get pushed around. So what? Do you to take it personally? Or deem it as 'conflict'? If you DO participate, you roll with it; get pushed around and respond accordingly. But DO NOT join in, get pushed around and start whining about being pushed and shoved... and/or criticize it (even as a bystander). That just makes no sense. Would that be termed as 'conflict' to you? Or is that just the 'nature' of a mosh pit?. A mosh pit is an event to let loose and vent whatever emotions you want. It's a free for all. And everyone is welcome to it. B. Global Chat: A Mosh Pit? Is global chat a metaphorical social moshpit? Possibly yes. It can be quite relaxed or a raging inferno. It has a range of behavior and pseudo emotional affectations. And that's what makes it a beautiful thing (and gives it VALUE). Know that going in and you are fine, otherwise you'll figure that out pretty quick. If you feel you are being 'pushed around' or whatever... that's on YOU, not the community. Agree with it or not, that is the 'nature' of Global chat. And why shouldn't it be? It's freedom of expression. The entire onus of how it is received or perceived is on the recipient, and nobody else. C. Conflict and Avoidance Conflict is choice. It becomes a conflict, IF YOU MAKE IT (or perceive it as) A CONFLICT. And how do you do that? Most often by taking it personally. Two options: confront or don't confront. If you confront something, you face it head-on and roll with it. If you don't confront something, you walk away from it. And given the nature of what I'm reading here in some of these posts, I believe the term 'running from it' is far more appropriate. But ok, for argument sake, I will use 'walk away from it' instead There. I said it. You 'avoid' conflict in global chat by not 'turning it off (running from it / walking away from it / whatever)'. Rather, you face it head on, and just learn whether or not to take it seriously and/or personally. Roll with it. Have fun with it. D. The Solution There is no solution. Because some people want Global chat heavily moderated and very conservative, while others want it to be a free for all. However it is viewed, there is no 'right or wrong'. There is only two options: Option A: Take it personally or Option B: Roll with it'. E. Closing Statement It's often MINDLESS BANTER in global chat. If you see it as conflict, you took it personally. That's on you. Nobody else. I value global chat for what it is: another part of the game. It's there, so yea why not enjoy it for it's ENTERTAINMENT VALUE. Oh and by the way... this guy talking about 'conflict' and then making the statement "Some of you were raised with strange values". If that's not enough to start up a 'conflict', I don't know what is. Don't get me wrong, I love it. The irony gave me wood. There's devils on each side of you with bottles in their hands.
You need one more drop of poison and you'll dream of foreign lands. |

" I have an idea - its for a game. I call it the 'See how long it takes to get fired from my job and possibly arrested' game. All you have to do is, for about 1 or 2 hours, use the sentences that i will pull out of Global chat tonight, at your workplace, delivered in the manner that they are dlivered in global. Want to respond to a question from your boss? You can tell him to go F&*^ him/herself. Want to answer a coworkers question? You could very loudly just call them a [Removed by Support] in front of the entire workplace... Want to give it a go? Try it and lets see how long you remain employed. Common decency is a thing people - you should use it. And BTW - if you are really stupid enough to suggest somone hurt themselves, even in jest on a forum, and they do.... At least in Asutralia you can expect a visitation from the police and a court date. Matt. There are 10 types of people. Those that know binary, and those that dont.
