Summoner, partying, and end game farming.

summoner as a class not viable for end game.

Sure, you will be able to clear maps, but it will take hours to do so. While most other classes can do a map in 10-15 minutes.

This is pretty much the complete opposite of the truth.

Are you fucking kidding me...HOURS? HA....my summoner clears the hardest mod maps with very little effort.

I'm just stunned by how far off the mark this reply was. Serriously, I stopped playing my summoner 'cuse maps were to fucking easy...it got face roll easy.

Maybe people just dont understand how strong some Specters are. Yeah, yeah...they can die and you are SOL...thats the hardest part of the whole deal, learning how to not let them die...and really it's not all that hard. Like another guy mentioned, 6L Flame Sentinels + 2 Curses = me standing around picking up loot.

Summoners are the only class that can legitimately faceroll endgame content. Get 4 flame sentinels with GMP, minion life, minion damage, and whatever other mods you want (fire penetration and IIQ/IIR are nice choices) and you can pretty much enter a room and sit there watching everything die as if they were in a madworld game. OP, you really don't know what you're talking about; summoners are incredibly powerful. If you can't solo maps effectively as a summoner, then you're doing it wrong. As for me, well, give me a competent summoner any day; sure, the framerate drops and it gets hard to see the mobs, but that doesn't matter because it also means I don't have to do anything - I can pretty much just sit back and watch my XP go up, and nab the occasional drop with my name on it. That's how good summoners are. They can not solo faceroll maps, they can carry other people through maps pretty much for free! Hell, they don't give two shits about things like Temporal Chains and Enfeeblement, because the spectres aren't effected! Summoners are probably the most OP class in PoE at the moment; the only downside is how hard it is to get to the levels where you can faceroll everything, and how damned hard it is to find Midnight Bargain.

I am level 85 summoner, I use this equipment:

I get 4 good spectres, then I kind of semi afk watching streams on justin.tv with the second screen, and move around the map picking things up. There is no downtime waiting for minions to kill stuff, they just fall over more or less instantly (no I'm not talking about lvl 66 maps). So a map will take about as long as it takes you to travel around it and pick everything up.

EDIT: I also wouldn't even want to group with anyone, they are not necessary and if they steal kills from my spectres, then my 68%iiq and 253%iir becomes void.

I have 3 spectres atm, no necromatic aegis and dont use minion life with them (item quantity instead).

i clear maps 66-70 in about 3-5 minutes + loot sorting time, and an additional 5 mins if i run into the lava trail golems or bomb throwers. Aside from those mobs, the spectres (Flame sent) dont die even without minion life, so quantity of items is better for me.

The biggest thing to consider when doing maps is your summon zombie gem level. going from lvl 15 to lvl 18 is almost double the HP. If at all humanly possible put them in a +2 minion headgear, you'll clear stuff much easier without them dying (plus their instability gets a lot stronger if they do die). Same applies to skeletons, but to a lesser extent.
I play a summoner 78 with CI and i don't have problems to handle endgame content, but i think
we really need a way to command our army.

Suggestion for GGG devs : please add the possibility to select all ours minions, or at least a type of minion (for Exemple: CTR+click on a zombie) then the next right-click will order them to move to a location.
I hate when i have to go inside a room full of monsters and survive until my pets decide to come in and help me. This is a bit ridiculous that the weakest and most important part of an army is forced to engage fight in risky location.
This is also very frustrating to lose a good spectre because you cannot order him to back up...

Secondly, i would really love to see passives that decrease the numbers of minions but increase their power, then we could have the choice between a big large army of crappy pets or a little squad of badass. (this could help for partying too)

In diablo 2, you had the golem, the master peace of the army, but when you wanted to invest a lot in your golem, the size of the army would decrease. in path of exile, i am really missing this aspect of a summoner. Actually, if you want to play sommuner, there is no real choice, you just have to stack all minions nodes, then stack auras and curses. The only real choices are: CI or not CI and which spell to use to assist your pets.

Thanks for all the replies. Since it seems there will most likely be no partying, do the lower drop rates hurt? Or is it not noticeable?

Also, anyone ever try to form summoner parties? If nothing else for the social aspect?

My one request for summoner would be for your zombies to form up around you, instead of following (maybe) behind you. You could at least walk into a room without possibly getting creamed as soon as you clear the door. Maybe it's a keystone where they will form up around you, but won't chase enemies that far away from you.
ohh man.. you just reminded me... i miss my fire golem(and the 30 other skelles with him)... ;_;

I have to admit, with all the skeletons, zombies and a screenful of fireballs (and the graphical lag that introduces) I can't see monsters half the time, its the main reason i chanced to Arc as my primary attack skill (that and shock bonus for spectre dmg).

I can certainly see where ther "no summoners" thing comes from even if lightning arrow spam generates more lag.
