Exalted Orbs
" there absolutely would be bartering for all the items still, and nobody would know when values would change in the market, and if you have the community voting alongside the rarity of the orb dictating values of said orbs, then it would still be a free market, you would just cut out the part where you cant do anything till you get the fusing you need, or the exalt you need to fix your gear. And also the people that wait till there are no exalts or fusing and scalp. You have to understand that a china gold farm site could literally buy every exalt for over the amount its worth currently, then just sit on them till value goes up then sell themm.....( on a big enough scale this could irreparably damage the economy) I am currently doing that. And nothing short of changing exalt drop rates would affect this. But if you had a vendor where people could trade lessers then you wouldn't lose currecy, and trade chat can be a gear trade chat instead of WTB GCP OR EXATS WITH CHAOS. not a bitch just a thought on how to regulate a cheaters market. |

" I still believe this would make all currency worth an exact amount, therefore cancel any chance of currency to currency trades. Now, I do concur that the trade chat channel (In it's current form) is plagued with WTB Chromes or insert currency here spam. The chat is still in infancy and I think GGG will straighten out how trading occurs and alleviate that problem. Possibly with being able to trade offline or by making more channels for advertising specific in game items. I really like the ability to sell a large (read Bulk) amount of a smaller currency to someone that needs it for a small (As I see them) profit in currency. AKA 18 Chromes for a Chaos instead of 20. If there was a vendor then no one would ever be able to make such deals because the product is always out there at a set rate. But again, all opinions. |

I got a LV80 character now, some lower level chars and have done dozens of maps up to LV72 maps.
I always solo. I've only ever got 1 Divine Orb. And I NEVER got not even 1 Exalted Orb. Is that common? Here since Closed Beta. Never found a Mirror. Still love PoE. :- ) Last edited by markus7#6023 on Mar 15, 2013, 2:15:05 PM

" Yes, quite common. I have, in ~600 characer levels, seen 2 drop. All of this talk about supply and demand suffers a bit because there is no simple way of influencing supply. |

Personally, for exchanging, I'd like to see an instanced area off the town areas that allows players to set up shops, and be able to set their own exchange rates. Other players could enter the area and peruse the various goods, and see each shops exchange rate. Items could be sold based on a set currency equivalent based on this rate. I'm sure a few industrious people would set up dedicated currency exchanges. This would get you the convenience of vendor exchanging, but keep the free market intact, and allow for competition.

" Fixed on the rates the market dictates keeping it a free market. It is fun now, but what about when you cant find any Exalted orbs, and when you do, someone wants 10-20 gcp for it? history has proven a true free market cannot operate unregulated successfully, not sure why this would be any different. The system is ripe for abuse. |

" THISSSSSS MAN this is great. I actually like this better. This touches on another thing. availability of information. Right now most deals are done in whispers. I feel like it should be more public. Or at least a more public avenue that doesnt require logging out of the game. Plus more than half the people that play this dont go to forums anyway. But a shop area is a fantastic idea! |

" What you call abuse, I call price discovery. When you can't find exalteds, and then you do find one for 10-20 GCP, if you are willing to pay this (or someone else), then that is what it's worth. Yes, people who hoard exalteds will have created artificial scarcity, but eventually, a tipping point will be reached, the price will seem acceptable to those with the product, and the exalteds will re-enter the market. The beautiful thing about a free market is that it's never unregulated. The question is, whether it is regulated by central planning forces, or by market forces. No. Calm down. Learn to enjoy losing.

" This, I love this. Explained much better than my attempts. If it becomes 20GCP to get one exault I would think people will resort to complete rerolls of equipment with Choas, as it would be much more affordable. This systems of consumable currency has it's own set of checks and balances. |

" on the surface what you say makes sense, but you are ignoring what im saying is the problem. you could call stealing borrowing. You aren't addressing the part where someone could be making a huge negative impact on the market for personal profit. All the while potentially ruining the game in the process. You have to think about those people, just saying "that's what the market is dictating" brushes them under the rug and allows them to continue this behavior, Reaching the tipping point is the whole purpose behind the scam, its a matter of how high can you raise the value before you sell its still affected the market (artificially)so they make a killing once it is reached. just a few people could do this, im not talking about the whole pop of the game (which would be affected by the few). I just want the game to survive, i really like it. I also like the idea of a Trade area with shops (suggested by someone else), in game where you could go and see the relative price of stuff without leaving the game and go forum hunting to maybe find a few items to compare. This would also have the same affect as what i suggested. As it stands chats aren't linked so you don't get to see the true value of stuff in trade chat unless you constantly move around to move channels. |
