Can we have a moment of silence in memory of molten strike

molten strike is still decent, just not nearly as good. probably still the best option for some setups

" Quite right. Its insanely powerful synergy with life on hit still works as it did before, it just deals significantly lower damage. Whether or not that's a concern to an immortal being, is up for debate. Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.
Lay your portal gem to rest, don't you die no more. 'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony this league. Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave. |

The loss of Ancestral Call impact zone stacking was brutal, but likely necessary. Molten Strike being permitted to make effective use of Ancestral Call when no other skill can was out of bounds and allowed Molten Strike a damage ceiling well above what it should have been capable of.
Cutting its damage in half and eliminating its ability to spawn its secondary projectiles almost completely feels like an over-vindictive decapitation strike. I actually quite enjoyed Molten Strike as a useful and versatile skill outside of its position as (Disputed) King of the Meta. I simply enjoyed how it played. Now, alas, my old Molten Striker is finally dead and the skill will never again be smooth or comfortable to play. It was fun, MS. I will, without irony, miss the skill. Such is the fate of all Path of Exile skills, eventually. She/Her

For a "melee" patch, they sure did a good job of making plenty of skills feel substantially worse to play.
Can't speak as to how it feels to lvl with MS after the array of nerfs, but it's really not enjoyable at all deep in the endgame now. I'm fine if there are general nerfs for balance, but the heavy-handed nerfs they do solely to push people to abandon skills/builds in favor of something else is getting pretty tiresome. Stripped my only remaining MS char, 89 RIP MS I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German. Last edited by aggromagnet#5565 on Jun 18, 2019, 11:33:54 AM

" Heh. Ye know, it's almost fascinating in a way. People see a skill they don't like get Hammer of Dawn'd and are all "DELICIOUS TEARS OM NOM NOM PLAY A REAL SKILL U NUBZ", gloating over the demise of something they believed didn't belong in The Meta. The exact same people see a skill they do like get Hammer of Dawn'd and are all "GODDAMNIT GRINDING GEAR Y U DU DIS MY SKILL NEVER DID NUTHIN WRONG", and raise a hue and cry over a skill they believe did belong in The Meta getting knocked out of it. The contradiction is breathtaking. The idiocy is less so. Grinding Gear can adjust skills to try and decrease abusive cases without ruining the skill's viability - look at Storm Brand, or to a lesser extent Winter Orb. There's no need to do triple-whammy fuck-off-and-die nerfs like this in virtually all cases. But players eat them up, so long as it's something they think is Uncool. Why folks like that expect sympathy when their favorite thing gets punked is honestly beyond me. She/Her

" ya its damage got hit pretty hard, but its damage was already pretty damn insane. its clear got super boosted though, but overall probably 25-30% less damage or so |
|
" How did clear get boosted for Molten Strike? As I recall, the numbers were strictly disadvantageous - enormous damage penalties and a lack of secondary projectiles on all Ancestral Call attacks and any primary attack that didn't physically hit a target. Combined with Multistrike losing most of its attack speed and gaining damage boosts Molten Strike can't take advantage of even when they decide to work, I'd figure Molten Strike lost a significant chunk of its clear potential on top of basically all its bossing DPS. MS was my skill of choice using Marauder in early game until I could use Sunder. Now, snif snif, it's ruined.
Oh well, c'est la vie and bury your head in the sand. |
