GGG sold out to Tencent in May of 2018, just over 1 year ago

Is Grinding Gear Games becoming part of Tencent?

Grinding Gear Games is still an independently-run company in New Zealand. All of its developers still work for Grinding Gear Games and have not become Tencent employees. The founders (Chris, Jonathan and Erik) are still running the company, just like we have been for the last 11 years. Going forward, we will have financial reporting obligations to Tencent but this will have minimal impact on our philosophy and operations.

Will Tencent try to change Path of Exile?

No. We spoke to CEOs of other companies that Tencent has invested in, and have been assured that Tencent has never tried to interfere with game design or operations outside of China. We retain full control of Path of Exile and will only make changes that we feel are best for the game.

Since that time, we've had Betrayal, Synthesis, and now Legion.

Is it any coincidence?

I really dont know.
They seem to try really hard to impress the audience and deliver more every time.
Talk about biting off more than you can chew.
What i definitely noticed (because its unavoidable) since the "sell out" is the constant microtransaction spam. Dont like it but it is what it is.
You have to remember to chase and catch your dreams, because if you don't, your imagination will live in empty spaces, and that's nowhere land.
You haven't said what it is about Betrayal, Sythesis, and Legion that makes this more than a coincidence.
They're the worst leagues and the worst game performance in the history of the game.

Back to back to back.

2 out of 3 ain't bad. Not sure what point you're trying to make, but the game has gotten progressively better, but with more bugs, as they try to improve the engine while providing us with great mechanics to interact with. Synthesis wasn't my cuppa, but Betrayal and Legion have both been great.

I have noticed naught but the same roller coaster of improvements matched with bugs that there has always been. Everything that gets changed/added/tweaked in a game this complex has the chance to adversely affect something else. It's GONNA happen. It is the manner in which GGG handles all of the problems that keeps me buying supporter packs.

Get over yourself and your myopic view of what affects YOUR playstyle, and realize that if you approach GGG with each problem as an intelligent person, rather than a whiny entitled brat, they will eventually address your issue.

I myself am still waiting for the Betrayal Intervention lag fix that they have said they are working on. When it is ready, they will release it. That is their established pattern. I don't want them to rush it, I don't want them to put in a "fix" that breaks another area of the game. So, I wait.

GGG are the best game developers I have ever experienced, and I am really getting sick of the endless shit they get for not making the game to suit EACH and EVERY player's idiosyncratic taste.

I call them out on stuff being broken, needing to be fixed, but there is no reason to denigrate them as a company for random code errors which they have ALWAYS eventually fixed.
I am quite frequently not so miserable as it would be wise to be - T.H. White

As playtime approaches infinity, access to content approaches unity.

I agree. I wish there was a way to disable the constant in-game notifications for the mystery boxes. Maybe go the route some F2P go and making a purchase disables the in-game spamming.

As far as the daily releases on the website, I do kind of wish they'd bundle them into weekly or bi-weekly collections instead of drip-feeding them, but I suppose for me the result is the same - if I see something I like, it goes on the wishlist to wait for a sale. I've never wanted a new MTX bad enough to pay full price for it.

They actually used to do it that way, release a batch of new MTX every other week or so. Compared to back then, they've been releasing the same amount of MTX, just one at a time. From a business standpoint, it's a smart move. And at the end of the day, that's what this is, a business.
