New PoE Code of Conduct change also applies to Global Chat

There's bound to be more suitable places for discussion of topics that GGG deems to be "inflammatory". Places with more focused moderation that disallow obvious trolling from trying to derail otherwise serious conversations.

I think we can all agree that there is a silver lining in that these forums and the in-game chat will still be better than the immature toxic cesspool that is Reddit.
Not even CI saves people from that place.

too bad that GGG loves reddit and streamers are so happy to post there.. it seems the feedback that GGG takes from is from reddit.

why having an "official" forums to discuss if you love a 3rd website? you can keep certain sections but it's clear certain sections of this forums such as "feedback&suggestions" are nothing but trashcan that I bet 99.8% of the feedback there is never considered nor/read.

Like someone said already some pages ago here.. some people will actually have to be the grown adult they are not the edgy troll anymore for certain topics.

poe0.2/10. Nuff said.

Inflammatory subjects was never my wording. That's not even my place to define in this context as this isn't my company, my game, or my forum. I think what is forgotten is that we are in their house, and generally speaking when you're in someone's house you follow their rules if you have any intention of being a decent guest. If I don't agree with the house rules, I leave.

To attempt to answer at least the spirit of your question, even though it is not my place to provide the answer....

There are certain topics which are generally taboo in certain settings. The most basic being never talk religion or politics unless you are in a place that is specifically for that. There is a reason that is a common rule of thumb, because at best it doesn't get ugly but more commonly in my experience it spirals to a bad place (I'm an atheist for reference). People kill over religion. People kill over politics. They are quite volatile topics even in the best of circumstances.

It is a subjective topic clearly but someone has to set ground rules. GGG's house. GGG's rules. We are guests free to leave any time we like.[/spoiler]

My point wasn't to put you on the spot or get you to define it, simply to illustrate how poorly defined it is and as a result can easily be utilized at will by any moderator to censor in any given context if he so sees fit without having to uphold a golden standard against all users.

I took the term directly from the CoC, not your post sir.

Discuss inflammatory topics, such as Politics or Religion

Everything is an inflammatory topic given the correct context.

The lack of contextual boundary is exactly why i find it problematic because it allows each moderator to interpret individually and subjectively.

GGG can do whatever they want, but they should close down off-topic for starters and actually formulate clear rules to uphold and not throw in some random "could mean anything at any time" terminology which nobody will be the wiser from untill they get hit with warnings.

Enforcing business oriented rules on your gaming boards and in-game chat moderation and then also applying them to a section dedicated to off-topic discussions for the community seems facetious at best.

Got it. Sorry didn't realize it was rhetorical. Tone is hard to read sometimes.

As for off topic, I think they should leave it open and give it an exclusion on the topics ToS, but still maintain rules about decorum. My gut feeling is that is a lot of work for them, so they are trying to stop the fires before they start by taking away the matches.

With these rules, Off Topic definitely loses a place in this forum as topics that are non-game related run a higher risk of falling into the subjective inflammatory trap.

Just the same, and this is going to sound condescending, taking away the matches is probably a good choice. I don't let my kid play with matches and time and time again active participants in this forum have shown their maturity level to be closer to my kid than a mature adult. Yes, that is a broad brush I'm painting with so I'll caveat it with most are not that way. But the few that are have no reason to stop while GGG doesn't have any tools to really stop them (Free game, free acounts, IP bans are useless, etc.) and players do not as well (lack of voting/like/dislike system). Reporting is slightly less effective than pissing into the wind. (Edit: Just noticed Shags used this phrase above while I was getting caught up on the rest of the thread that I've not read yet. Oh well, I'm keeping it)

It's a complicated problem that they've tried many times over the years to mitigate and seem to have fallen short of their goals time and time again. The tone on this forum, particularly in GD, is quite toxic. This is just their recent attempt to quell the problem. They'll fail; but an act of futility is worth it for the principle of trying to clean things up in this forum from my optic.
Thanks for all the fish!

Good. Play games to escape the real world, not read an NPC input on a topic that's overworn and never leads anywhere.

I wouldn't care if it wasn't spammed. People can't even talk about THE GAME, or ask questions about THE GAME because some idiots are arguing the same unoriginal points.

What's worse is people don't even know when they are being prodded/trolled. Someone will deliberately just say a few words and then for the next 1 hour that's all you hear.

"Change chat" no, it's POE chat people shouldn't have to feel like they are singleplayer mode because of a few idiots.

If players can't do it themselves then you have to enforce it yourself.
