The Beta Key Gen = Broken
I really like this game, and I'd love to give them feedback.
The only problem is that they kinda have to let me play it. |

" Supposedly they are going to be adding an option that if you donate money, you will get a beta key and some other perks. That's kind of just hearsay right now, I've yet to see an official post on the matter. As of right now the beta key generator is extremely broken because people who made an account in 2010 and haven't logged in once or posted one message on the forums since they initially joined, are getting keys. Most people that I've seen get the random keys, and I check quite often, are all people who have never posted one thing in the forums. They really should be giving keys to the more actively engaged members of the forums, the people who actually seem to care about the game, rather then people who have long forgotten about PoE. |

" Well there's the official post saying that you will be able to purchase beta keys in the near future. Faith in humanity restored! |

The way I see it, people who inactive deserve it just as much as an active person. See how irritable you're getting over not having a key yet? Maybe they were the same way back in September or whenever they didn't get their key. I doubt you'll constantly visit this site everyday for 3-4 months if you don't get a key soon. Not to mention you do not need to be logged in to do anything aside from posting on the forums. And since you do not have beta access yet, your posts to the forums are limited in context regardless.

" So you are saying that someone who made an account in say.. august 2010, and logged in only ONE time to make the account, then never logged in again, deserves to get a key as much as someone who is actively engaged in the community of Path of Exile? I full heatedly disagree with that. I'm not saying that because I do not have a key, it just makes sense to reward the people who actually seem to give a shit about the community here. I've seen people who have been users here for months, if not almost a year, and they are actively engaged in the community, and they still never get a key. That right there is discouraging to people and will drive people away from the game. |

" And you are much better? " |

" That is exactly what I'm saying actually. I wouldn't call myself fully active, but I've made a few posts in my time. Not as many I should by all means, but Beta is for TESTING. Testing alone. It is not a reward, award, bonus, anything else. It is to give person access to test. People who deserve beta keys the most? GOOD testers. Does forum activity determine any correlation between a good tester? Nope. So yes I think anyone deserves a chance that took the time to register. And just like I said logging in does not determine active or not, I come to the site everyday but do not log in half of them. No reason to, just reading patches, reading forum posts, and sometimes I just don't feel I have anything constructive to add. If this was a 'game works perfectly fine and we just want people to play it for advertising purposes' then MAYBE we take active members only, but that's not what beta TESTING is. Sorry if that bothers you ;[ no offense intended. |

There is few things i don't understand with this.
1. If the games going to be free why not make the beta open and free because they are going to make money from other sources in the game like character customization, only reason i can think of is the devs are to busy to keep track on the servers pop/stress a simple cap could fix this which makes 2. not make sense 2. Is anyone really receiving a beta key random every 3 minutes or what ever amount of time it is and like someone said why give it to inactive accounts ...wt?, it all seems a bit suss to me and i have seen company's do this with D3 keys to get there facebook likes up, but i do like a good conspiracy theory which is why 3. makes no sense. 3. What is stopping people abusing the system and making multiple PoE accounts all day long and getting multiple keys from the random generator, i do believe this to be a hoax to get numbers for what ever reason signed up on the site. |

" If you release the game with bugs, people will leave and not come back. Bad user experience for a half-ass release. They are following and tested and true model for alpha/beta/open beta/release. This works and would be moronic to stray too far from this path. " Yes it gives out keys randomly every few mins. Inactive accounts are people to. Testing is good for testers and activity is no kind of measure to testing ability so best just to do it randomly. Inactive accounts != Inactive users. No need to log in to visit the site. " People do this and the team tries to avoid it as much as possible. This is possible in ANY beta, no way to assure they are real even if they looked for an active status. I could EASILY log into 30 accounts each day and post 1 message. I believe they do some work with IP addresses, but outside of that they don't have options. |
